Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.For more information, contact Kathy Wainscott at 502-517-6289.
Anderson Public Library offers computer, yoga classes

In the photo of the Lawrenceburg High Band that ran Dec. 12 the young fellow just to Leslie Toll’s right, who is not identified, looks very much like Phil Swift, according to an email from Jim McKee.
McKee says the fellow identified as Phil Swift, does not look like him and is holding a clarinet, but Phil was a very good trumpet player and the other guy is holding a trumpet.

Westside Community Church announces events
Past Events
Westside had a Christmas play on Dec. 16 and Dec. 21 called “A Christmas to Remember.”
Westside had a church family event on Dec. 28, going to the movies to see “Wreck-It  Ralph.”
Upcoming Events
On Jan.6 Westside will host special guest singers at the Sunday night service at 6 p.m.
On Jan.11 there will be discipleship class at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
On Jan. 13 there will be a prayer walk at the Anderson County High School at 2 p.m.

50 YEARS AGO
Dec. 27, 1962
Jack Birdwhistell, of Anderson High School, was the 1962 winner of the Soil Conservation Essay contest. This was the second time Jack had won the county prize. The first time was in 1959 when he was still in grade school.
Ben Stratton, also of Anderson High School, had the second best essay. He received $5. There were 311 students who participated, compared to 28 the year before.
