  • Westside Community Church recently announced its events and services for the month of January.
    On Saturday, Jan. 8, the youth will take a trip to the Georgetown Pavilion. The group will leave the church at noon.
    During the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Jan. 16, Glenis Sanders will be singing.
    On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the church will visit Heritage Hall for music and fellowship.
    Regular service times are Sunday at 10 a.m. for Sunday school, 11 for the morning worship service and 6 for the evening worship service.

    December 22, 1960
    Mrs. Carl Willard was seriously injured at her home on North Main when a coal stove exploded.
    Mr. Willard and their son, Carl Willard Jr., were at the barn milking when the accident occurred.
    According to reports, Mrs. Willard had lighted the stove, which had been formerly used as a laundry stove but was used as a heating stove and had new connections. It was believed that water had collected in some parts of the connections, causing the explosion.

  • Matthew and Megan Spaulding of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their son, Malachi Thomas Spaulding, on Oct. 30 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

    He weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces and was 21.5 inches long.
    His maternal grandparents are Bill and Marna Bollinger of Lawrenceburg.
    His paternal grandparents are Dr. Mitch and Kathy Spaulding of Stanford.
    His great-grandparents are Roy and Mildred Hicks and Dora Spaulding.

  • Sand Spring Baptist Church will host a New Year’s Eve Southern Gospel Concert on Friday, Dec. 31.
    Food will be served on the second floor of the fellowship hall beginning at 6 p.m.
    The concert will start at 8 p.m. in the sanctuary and will end at 12:01 a.m.
    Donations for food will be accepted.
    A love offering will be taken for the groups during the concert.
    Groups performing are The Hilltop Trio of Lawrenceburg, The Patriot Quartet of Salvisa, The Shireys of Columbia, S.C., and Steve Ladd of Nashville, Tenn.

    Dec. 8, 1960
    Randy and Alice Black, twins, both of whom were receiving recruit training at Parris Island, S.C. were pictured having Thanksgiving dinner together in the traditional “family reunion” manner.

    Jimmy Cox, son of Mrs. Ira Cox and member of Western High’s basketball team, was out for the season due to rheumatic fever. He was a senior.

  • Bobbi Lynn and Brad Durr of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their son, Karson Bradley Durr, on May 21 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort.

    He weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 inches long.
    He was welcomed home by a brother, Hunter Durr, 9.
    His maternal grandparents are Bob and Kathy Holt of Lawrenceburg.
    His paternal grandparents are Charlie and Rozella Ritchey of Lawrenceburg.
