    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

  • Edward Earl and Mary Jo Hyatt celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 1.
    They were married in Jeffersonville, Ind., by the Rev. Edwin Carroll.
    They have three children, Edward Allen Hyatt, Sharon Lynn Parker and Teresa Kay Hyatt. They also have one granddaughter, Heather Nicole Hyatt, who is working on her master’s degree at Eastern Kentucky University.

    Building permits were issued to F.L. Barnes for a storage building at an estimated cost of $275; Mrs. Bertha Medley, new construction of additional room and porch for dwelling of building on South Gatewood at a cost of $400; Mrs. John Coubert, Ballard Street, new construction of additional room for bath at cost of $400.

    Ann Spencer was one of 11 co-eds at Eastern Kentucky State College chosen as ROTC sponsors by the 1,100 members of the Corps. Spencer was to be the sponsor for company “C.”

    The Fintville Community Church will host a Fall Festival at the church Saturday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Mike and Ann Ward of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Lyn Ward of Lexington to Eric Bolander of Lexington, son of Kay Bolander of Garrison, Ky., and the late Raymond Bolander.
    Maternal grandparents of the bride are Martha Thornton, Louisville, and the late Barker Thornton. Paternal grandparents of the bride are Margaret Ward, Harrodsburg, and the late Worley Ward.
    Maternal grandparent of the groom is Helen Vanhoose, Garrison, Ky.

  • Non-believers or atheists often deny the supremacy of Jesus. This is not surprising to anyone.
    Many of the Jews and people of Jesus’ time did not believe in him, either. The Jews expected a powerful general.
    We as a culture also look up to strength, power and influence. Jesus appeared as a poor and lowly servant, which is not what the world now or then looks up to.
    To most of us, being a lowly servant seems “foolish” compared to today’s culture.

  • Gill Crouch and Jeanette Powers of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of Casey June Crouch of Lawrenceburg and Bob William Henry Hanson, son of Kim and Benton Hanson of Lawrenceburg.
    Grandparents of the bride are Anna Crouch and the late June Crouch, and Florence and Linual Barnett.
    Grandparents of the groom are Louada and Newton Hanson and the Robert and Marilyn Sand.
    The wedding will take place on Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Lawrenceburg with a reception to follow at Eagle Lake Convention Center.
