    Open Hands Community Food Pantry will host a benefit motorcycle ride on Saturday, July 13 with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and kick stands up at 12:30 p.m.
    The ride will begin and end at the food pantry, according to a press release from Open Hands.
    All proceeds will go to the food pantry to support its mission.
    Door prizes will also be awarded at the event, and a meal will be provided by the pantry after the ride.
    There will be plaques for the best and worst hands.

  • Pigeon Fork Baptist plans Bible school
    Pigeon Fork Baptist Church will host vacation Bible school Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
    Activities are planned for children from age 3 through those who have completed the sixth grade, according to a news release.
    The week centers on the theme “The Kingdom Chronicles.

  • When the Supreme Court last week issued its rulings concerning Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act, to say I was not surprised is an understatement.
    Although I was hoping for a different outcome, I had already prepared myself for this ruling; this has been coming for some time.
    Our culture is ripe for such a shift. The moral fabric of our nation had begun to rend long before last Wednesday; the rulings of the court were simply indicative of the direction we are heading as a society.

    Performers in BCB & Company represent Anderson, Boyle, Mercer, and Franklin counties.

    The Woodford Theatre is currently enrolling students for its 2013 summer academy.
    At the end of each week of training, students will showcase what they have learned in a performance for friends, family and invited guests.
    The performances will showcase the techniques taught throughout the week and the practical application of these techniques, according to the theater’s press release.

    April 4, 1963
    Mrs. Jerry Dadisman received a severe cut to her right leg Sunday when a plank struck her while she was in her yard. Seventeen stitches were required to close the wound.

    Douglas Hanks, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan S. hanks, fell off his bicycle as he was going home from school Monday afternoon and hit his head on the road.
    He sustained a concussion and a bruised elbow. He was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington and returned to his home Tuesday morning.

    Capital City Christian Church in Frankfort will host the Down East Boys in concert on June 29 at 7 p.m.
    Attendees are asked that they give a $10 donation at the door.
    Doors will be open for seating at 6:15 p.m.
