  • Bruce and Leesa Stevens and Rodney Samuels and Sunnye Smith, all of Lawrenceburg, announce the engagement of their daughter, Abbey Samuels, to Matthew Rogers, son of Brenda and Glen Rogers  Jr., of Lawrenceburg.
    Maternal grandparents of the bride are Gladys Satterly and the late Lillard “Bo” Satterly, Lawrenceburg.
    Paternal grandparents of the bride are Ruby Samuels and the late Ollivan “O.B.” Samuels, Madison, Va.

  • Mike and Susan Richey of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Jane Richey of Lexington to Jeff Taylor of Lexington, son of Gary and Janet Taylor of Orlando, Fla.
    The bride and groom are both currently employed as attorneys.
    The wedding will take place on Sept. 14, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington.

    Aug. 9, 1962
    Large crowds were expected to visit Friday and Saturday for the first Exhibition of the Anderson County Fair, Inc. with many events planned.
    A twist contest was to be held Friday night from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. The Carnations with Cosmo and the Trendells with Paul Penny were to entertain. The 4-H Council sponsored the event.

  • Donna Moon and Aaron Williams of Indianapolis, Ind., announce the birth of their daughter, Lauren Williams, born July 2, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. at St. John’s hospital.
    She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20 inches long.

  • Westside news and notes
    On July 1 Pastor F.D. Robinson baptized Glenn Dunn, Samuel Green, JoAnn Rucker, Brandon Jones and Ladonna Bell.
    On July 20 Westside had a Family Fun Night in which the church family went to the movies.
    On July 22 Westside held its last Sunday Service at 700 West Broadway.
    On July 28 Westside had a Family Fun Night in which the church family went bowling.

  • I am often confused by the concept of atheism and ponder that there are those who actually reject the existence of God.
    How can someone step back and look at the vastness of our world, the beauty and intricacies of nature, to see your own eyes in your child’s eyes and believe this is all an accident?
    To me it borders on actual hatred for God as opposed to love of him. I believe even the unreached villager in Papua New Guinea acknowledges God.
