  • Mercedes Dixon and Zachary Peach of Lawrenceburg were married June 29 at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort. Glenn Corn officiated.
    Parents of the bride are Brian and Melisa Dixon of Lawrenceburg. Grandparents of the bride are Marvin and Nancy Wright, Norwalk, Ohio; Tom and Ann Dixon, Collins, Ohio; and the late Carol Dixon.
    Parents of the groom are Ricky and Kathy Peach of Lawrenceburg. Grandparents of the groom are Herman Lee and Becky Peach of Lawrenceburg; and the late Mary Rose and MJ Stevens.
    The bride was escorted by her father Brian Dixon.

  • Western Hills High School and Franklin County High School classes of 1982 will hold reunions Aug. 3-4.
    The Aug. 3 event will be held at 6 p.m. on the Old Capitol Lawn as part of the Frankfort Concert series. The concert series will be followed by classmate Jeff Duncan’s band Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits at the Brick Alley on the St. Clair Mall.

    June 21, 1962
    John Louis Hume, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hume of Alton Station, graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with specialization in accounting and economics.
    He is married to the former Brenda Adams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reo Adams of Alton Station.

    Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the new Woodford Hospital. The building program was initiated by a $400,000 gift from Mrs. Oakey Logan Alexander.

  • The Colorado shooting spree that took place last week is one of the saddest and most disturbing things I can imagine.
    My heart and my prayers go out to the families that lost loved ones and the still injured.
    I often reflect on what kind of a monster this suspect was to apparently commit such a heinous act. It is reminiscient of Columbine or Timothy McVeigh.
    Over the weekend I heard comments from others about what they wish they could do to the perpetrator of this evil act.

    Alton Christian Church is collecting items for the Galilean Children's Home, according to a news release.
    Church members will also be taking a trip to the Galilean Home on July 23.
    The church’s youth group is studying the Book of Mark.

    Lawrenceburg Church of Christ will host its vacation Bible school July 22-25 from 7-9 p.m.
    “Bible Roundup” will be the theme of the week.

  • Chance McConnell has accepted the position of director of ministries and education at Alton Baptist Church, and will coordinate the church’s programs in outreach, discipleship and missions.
    A native of Princeton, McConnell is a recent graduate of Campbellsville University with a degree in pastoral ministries, and will be enrolling in Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall.

  • Danielle Sparks and Derek Turner of Frankfort announce the birth of their daughter, Avari Nicole Turner, born April 26, 2012, at 5:49 p.m. at St. Joseph East Women’s Hospital.
    She weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 17 inches long.
    Maternal grandparents are Tim and Melinda Sparks of Lawrenceburg. Maternal great-grandparents are Wendall and Virginia Lawson of Versailles.
    Paternal grandparents are the late Sterling Turner and Carla Turner of Frankfort. Paternal grandparents are the late Bobby Turner and Dorothy “Tom” Turner.
