    Graefenburg United Methodist Church, located on US 60 at Crab Orchard Road, one mile west of Highway 151, has welcomed its new pastor, Andrew Haire Sr.; along with his wife, Ashley; daughter, Makenzie; and son, A.J.  

  • I want to talk about a very touchy subject this week: racism.
    What does the Bible tell us about racism? I think a lot of people look down on other ethnicities at times. It might be an off color joke or just stereotyping a group. I don’t have to be candid with this.

    Grand Theatre holds showing of “The Birds”
    The Grand Theatre in Frankfort will be showing Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” on Aug. 24 at 7:40 p.m. Tickets are $6.


  • Kelli and Tyler Buckley of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their son, Lucas Scott Buckley, born Aug. 4, 2012 at Central Baptist hospital in Lexington.
    He weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 19 1/2 inches long.
    Big brother Colt, 2, welcomed Lucas home.
    Maternal grandparents are Vaughn and Sharon Quisenberry of Lawrenceburg. Maternal great-grandparents are Pete and Patsy Richardson of Versailles.

    Aug. 23, 1962
    Mrs. E.B. Sparrow was the winner in the Home Economics division at the Anderson County Fair and her sister Mrs. Elvin Burgin was the runner-up.
    Mrs. Sparrow had a total of 69 points on entries in clothing, craft, canning, antiques and foods.

  • Mount Eden Christian plans revival
    Mount Eden Christian Church is hosting a revival beginning with services on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The revival will continue through Wednesday with services at 6:30 each night beginning with special music.
    John Richardson, a minister in Chaplin, will be the featured speaker.
    Mount Eden Christian is located at 12241 Mount Eden Road in Mount Eden.
    The community is invited to attend.

  • Jeremiah is such an interesting character of the Bible. He authored Jeremiah and Lamentations. Jeremiah was a very much-hated man because of his prophecies.
    He was scoffed at, people plotted to kill him, and he was commanded to remain celibate and not to participate in public celebrations.

  • Aaren Gignac and Jed Stratton were married May 20, 2012 at Lantana Resort and Marina in Pilot Point, Texas, and were officiated by the bride’s brother William Gignac.
    The bride is the daughter of Andrew and Lauren Gignac of San Antonio, and Dawna and John Nowlin of Elmendorf, Texas. The groom is the son of Troy and Millie Stratton, Bullard, Texas and formerly of Lawrenceburg. Grandparents of the groom are Faye Stratton and the late Sam Stratton Jr. of Harrodsburg.

  • Ken and Ann Evans of Lawrenceburg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 16.
    The couple was married on Sept. 16, 1962, at First Christian Church in Danville.
    Ken is retired from the Kentucky Utilities Company, is a member of the Lawrenceburg city council and is a nursing home ombudsman.
    Ann has been a nursing home ombudsman for 25 years.
    The couple has two children, daughter Julia Ann Brothers of Lawrenceburg, and son Kenny Irvin Evans of Frankfort.
