  • Norma (Tipton) Puckett and Earnie Lee Puckett of Lawrenceburg will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary with a reception at 5 p.m. on Aug. 27 at Sands Spring Church.
    All friends and relatives are invited. The couple requests no gifts.
    Norma’s parents are Nancy Tipton of Mt. Sterling and the late Walter Tipton. She is currently employed at Kroger in Lawrenceburg.
    Earnie’s parents are the late Albert and Lulua Mae Puckett. He is currently employed at Denny’s restaurant in Waddy.

  • Keith and Desiree Bowman of Nicholasville proudly announce the engagement of their daughter Elizabeth Bowman of Nicholasville to Brandon Lee Akins of Lawrenceburg, son of Barry and Lynn Akins of Lawrenceburg.
    The bride is a 2009 Jessamine County High School graduate and works admittance at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
    The groom is a 2005 Anderson County High School graduate and problem solver at Amazon.
    The wedding will take place Sept. 10, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Sand Spring Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg.
    All family and friends are invited.

  • Carolyn Casey called recently to correct some information that ran under  the photo of the dairy calf demonstration Aug. 3.
    Carolyn says David Flynn was actually Wayne Flynn and James Flynn should have been listed as Ray Flynn.
    Thanks, Carolyn, for correcting that 50-year-old mistake.

    Aug. 24, 1961
    Plans were under way to rebuild Pleasant Hill Christian Church that was destroyed by fire a few weeks before, when struck by lightning.

  • First Christian Church, located on 300 South Main St., will host the “Called to be a blessing” women’s retreat Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    It will be a day of renewal through worship, workshops, conversation and food. The keynote speaker is Dr. Connie White, an OB/GYN and women’s health advocate. The special guest is Sean Ramey, who appeared on Season 4 of “The Bachelorette,” and has a sixth degree Tae Kwon Do black belt and is a mugging and rape prevention instructor.

  • Every so often my husband gets a certain look in his eye and then says, “Before you say no, hear me out.”
    What comes next almost always involves a stepladder, can of spackle, his drill and a huge mess.
    I remember the time he tore the spare bedroom apart and temporarily stored a bed in the front bathroom. For days I muttered, “There’s a bed in my bathroom!”

  • Agnes Gritton Peach will celebrate her 80th birthday on Aug. 25.  
    A reception will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room at the First Baptist Church, 111 North Main Street. All friends and relatives are invited.
     

  • In June, seven members of the Anderson County 4-H Horse Club traveled to the Kentucky State 4-H Horse Contest in Lexington to compete against other counties for top honors in Horse Bowl, Hippology, Speech, Photography and Crafts.
    Junior team members were Katie Shouse, Emily Adams, Allison Adams and Madison Hagan. Senior team members were Emily Drury, Hannah White and Alison Guzicki. The junior team placed 5th overall in Hippology and placed in the top 10 in Horse Bowl. The senior team placed second overall in Hippology and fourth overall in Horse Bowl.

  • Brittany Gayle Carlton and Christopher Paul Callan of Lawrenceburg were married on April 9, 2011, at St. Lawrenceburg Catholic Church. Father Chris Clay officiated.
    Parents of the couple are Roger and Judy Carlton of Lawrenceburg and Paul and Ellenore Callan of Lawrenceburg. Grandparents of the couple are Marvin and Mary Ann Carlton of Lawrenceburg, the late Howard and Virginia Smith of Hustonville, Paul Callan, Sr., and the late Ann Callan of Silver Springs, Md., and the late Sebastian and Erna Herbert of Fredricksburg, Ind.

    Adelia “Deede” Huddleston, 3, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Huddleston had a new baby brother and her aunt, Mrs. Sherman Sims, took her to the hospital nursery to see him.
