    The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father.
    Krista Johnson, sister of the bride, served as the maid of honor. Annalese Taylor, daughter of the bride, and Whitney Griffieth, daughter of the groom, were bridesmaids.
    Stanley Creech, friend of the groom, served as the best man. Mary Cosby and Timmy Stratton, friends of the groom, also stood in honor on his behalf.

  • Pamela Gibbs and Jim Gibbs of Anderson County announce the engagement of their daughter, Valerie Dawn Gibbs of Anderson County, to Eric Clay Bottoms of Mercer County, son of the late Peggy Bottoms and the late Bill Bottoms of Mercer County.
    The bride is a 2008 Anderson County High School graduate and a 2012 University of Louisville graduate. She is currently attending the University of Kentucky’s doctor of physical therapy program.
    The groom is a 2006 Harrodsburg High School graduate and a 2009 Bluegrass Community and Technical College graduate.

    Grandparents of the bride are Marion and Earlene Stucker and Robert and Pat Chrisman.
    Grandparents of the groom are the late William Thacker and Ms. Ruth Thacker, John Will and Ann Cheak.
    The bride graduated from Midway College with an associate’s degree in nursing. She is currently employed as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

  • Mount Moriah Baptist to hold indoor yard sales
    Mount Moriah Baptist Church, located in Mt. Eden, will be hosting indoor yard sales on the second Saturdays of the month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a news release from the church.
    Dates for the yard sales will be May 11, June 8 and July 13.
    Set up will begin at 7 a.m.
    Call Anne at 502-738-5350 to reserve a table. Each table costs $20.
    Proceeds will benefit missions of the church, event organizers said in the release.

  • Last week we witnessed the unthinkable: thousands of Bostonians, along with thousands of others from around the globe who were gathered to partake in the Boston Marathon, experienced the horror that accompanies a terrorist attack as bombs exploded near the finish line. The graphic scenes are forever burned into our mind, along with the uneasiness that causes us to think, “Could this happen where I live?” After all, who would think of a marathon being a target for terrorism?
