The Way We Were

Sometimes you have to catch up, so this week’s Way We Were is just that. Over the year, there were several items chosen to include on the page that had to be bumped for space. So here’s what we left out. The Heaven Hill and Ellis Park ads ran in 1960.

Randy and Alice Black, twins, both of whom were receiving recruit training at Parris Island, S.C. were pictured having Thanksgiving dinner together in the traditional “family reunion” manner.

Jimmy Cox, son of Mrs. Ira Cox and member of Western High’s basketball team, was out for the season due to rheumatic fever. He was a senior.

Oct. 27, 1960
Robert Shifflet, 2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Shifflet of Nevins Station Road, was bitten on the nose by a dog last Thursday. The child began rabies shots on Friday.

Sarah Margaret Kays, sophomore student at Eastern Kentucky State College, was elected floor representative of Burnham Hall for Women. She is a graduate of Western High School and is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Kays.

Nov. 10, 1960
Two Anderson County men were critically injured about 9:45 a.m. when their milk truck was struck by a northbound train at the McBrayer crossing.
Local ambulances rushed Charles Boyd, 20, and Euell Corn, 50, to the Frankfort hospital.
Boyd lived with Earl Cotton on the Waddy Road and Corn, nephew of Mrs. Ada Corn Noel, was a resident of Anderson County, living between Birdie and the Shelby County line.
