March 1, 1962
Seven families were evacuated as the Kentucky River flooded Tyrone to within six feet of the record set during the flood of 1937.
Mrs. Annie Fint, Mrs. Susie Robinson, Herman Shryock Jr., A.D. Cox, Ray Morris Beasley and Raymond Murphy and Bob Alcorn and their families were moved out due to rising water.
William Fint and Steve Thurman, residents of Tyrone, said there had been at least a 40-foot rise in the river with the water at least 4 1/2 feet over the small iron bridge leading into the community.

In going back over Mr. Shely’s columns in the four or five papers it took to run his places in Anderson County information, one was inadvertently left out. The columns ran in 1972.
Shely was a teacher and resident historian.

JOHNSONVILLE — Located 18 miles west of Lawrenceburg on U.S. 62. It was named for the first settler, David Johnson, who built a log house there about 1835. A post office was started in 1854 and the community was incorporated in 1856.

Wyatt Shely, who wrote a weekly column called “Our Heritage” in the 1960s and 1970s, was asked by some men making a survey of Kentucky place names in 1971  to help compile some information about some of Anderson County’s place names.
Mr. Shely was the resident historian at that time and wrote many columns about the family names found in Anderson County and how they came to be here.

Jan. 25, 1962
Wesley N. Sims, 26, was promoted to captain in Korea, where he was a member of the 1st Calvary Division. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin W. Sims.

All Anderson County schools were closed Friday because of the condition of roads following a heavy snowstorm beginning that morning. Superintendent Andrew Bird said this is the only day this year that it was necessary to close the schools.
