    Commons 4 Kids charity to hold fundraiser
    Commons 4 Kids, a Lawrenceburg non-profit organization that donates trading cards to charities, is collecting donations and sports memorabilia to be auctioned with all proceeds going to the Sunrise Children’s Home in Mt. Washington.
    The fundraiser will begin Oct. 19 and end Dec. 1. Donations may be made in cash to Commons 4 Kids founder Jerry Milburn at Jerry@commons4kids.org, through Paypal at Commons4Kids.com, or directly made at sunrise.org.

  • Holiday seminar to be held Nov. 9

    The Fort Harrod Holiday Seminar will be held Nov. 9 at the Boyle County Extension Office. Cost is $15 per person and includes lunch, door prizes, handouts, holiday presentations and a holiday fashion show.
    Holiday desserts, Wild Thyme Holiday Cooking, best cuts of beef from a whole rib eye, and a demonstration on how to use items from your yard to reduce decorating costs are on the program. “Displays of holiday wreaths and a demonstration on Geo-mesh will get you in the mood for decorating,” event organizers said.

  • Frankfort Regional Medical Center teams up with Kosair Children’s Hospital

    Frankfort Regional Medical Center recently announced a partnership with Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville for specialty pediatric care.
    By partnering with one of the country’s top-ranked children’s hospitals, Frankfort Regional will receive additional support for pediatric care, according to a news release.
    Subspecialists from Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics have begun seeing patients in Frankfort on a rotating basis.

  • Veteran designation driver’s licenses available

    Kentucky veterans are able to obtain driver’s licenses imprinted with the newly authorized “veteran” designation, which became available Sept. 24, according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
    Veterans must present a Department of Defense form 214 to verify service when they visit Circuit Court clerk’s office. There is also a $20 renewal fee.

  • County attorney earns Citizen Support Award

    She’s been recognized by her peers as one of the state’s top county attorneys, and now she’s been recognized as one of its top citizens.
    Anderson County Attorney Bobbi Jo Lewis was honored recently by the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association by receiving the statewide group’s annual Citizen Support Award.
    Lewis was nominated by Sheriff Troy Young, who offered a letter of recommendation on her behalf.
    In the letter, Young outlines Lewis’ contributions to Anderson County, calling her a “very unique county attorney.”

  • Job fair scheduled Oct. 17 for veterans

    Job seekers who are transitioning personnel, veterans, members of the National Guard, reservists and their dependents will have an opportunity to meet nearly 30 employers at an Oct. 17 job fair, according to a news release.
    The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Northeast Christian Church, 990 Star Shoot Parkway, Lexington. The free event is sponsored by the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training (OET).
