  • Woman, five kids homeless after fire on Sea Ridge Road

A woman and five children were left homeless when a fire destroyed their home early Monday morning at 1169 Sea Ridge Road.

Anderson County Fire Chief said a call came in just after midnight, but by the time firefighters arrived the doublewide home was fully involved.

“Nobody was home when we got there, thank God,” Krogman said. “There were no injuries, including fire-fighters.”

Krogman said it remained unclear Monday afternoon what sparked the blaze.

  • Speedsters tour Lawrenceburg

No top. No fenders. No problem.

Model T Speedster enthusiasts made Lawrenceburg home for four days last week during the Horses, Bourbon and Back Roads Tour.

A speedster is built from a Model T Ford (1908-31) and is powered by a four-cylinder Ford engine. The cars are topless and often have the fenders removed.

Twenty-nine speedsters and 62 folks made the trip to Lawrenceburg for the 13th annual tour. Each year, the tour takes place in a different setting. Organizers choose Lawrenceburg this year for the country roads and local attractions.

  • Rabies clinic June 11

The 2016 rabies clinic is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. June 11 at the Anderson County Community Park.

The shots are $5 per pet.

If your pet received a rabies shot in 2015, it was a three-year shot and the pet will not need to receive another dose of the rabies shot until 2018.

Other shots will also be available.

    No appointment is required.

Please be sure to have dogs on a leash and cats in carriers.

The Anderson County Community Park is located at 1026 County Road in Lawrenceburg.

  • Fish on!

One child landed a big catfish, thanks to a family friend’s “lucky pole.”

Nearby, a pair of stepbrothers were dueling atop the leaderboard, each having hauled in a 5-plus pound catfish that were separated by just a few ounces and more than a little eager to share their fishing tale.

A little further along, one young man hauled in a dandy catfish on his dad’s birthday, and just one day before his own.

  • New program will help seniors with pets

Donna Callahan of the Anderson Humane Society told seniors about a new program the humane society is partnering with Bluegrass Community Action Partnership with that will help seniors care for their pets at the senior center Monday.

She said the services provided will include delivering pet food, medicines, trimming pet nails, and vet visits.

“It’s our way of helping you to keep your pet at home,” Callahan explained.

She added that if seniors become hospitalized, their pets will be taken to a foster home, rather than a shelter.
