  • Auxiliary members attend national convention

    The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion held their national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on Aug. 21-28. Those attending from Lawrenceburg were Unit 34, First Vice President and Department Second Vice President Betty Butler, along with Shirley and Bobby Thornberry. This was the 96th national convention for the legion, 94th for the auxiliary and 43rd for the Sons of the Legion.

    The American Legion Auxiliary Anderson Unit 34 held the seventh annual Poker Run on Aug. 40 to benefit the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Kentucky Healing Field.

    Alton Saddle Club Charity Horse Show

    The Alton Saddle Club will host a charity horse show to benefit CASA of the Bluegrass 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds.

    The entry fee is $5 per class except lead line. There are 16 different classes with six ribbons in each class. There will also be a silent auction and raffle.

  • Pierian Woman’s Club resumes schedule

    From staff reports

    The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club returns to its regular monthly meeting schedule Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m., rather than 7 p.m., at the Anderson Public Library.

    The earlier time will allow members to sign up for committees for the coming months’ projects.

    Beginning Oct. 16, book discussions will start at 6:30 p.m. and programs will start at 7 p.m., followed by business meetings.

    The first book to be read this fall is “Lost Light,” a Harry Bosch mystery by Michael Connelly.

  • Curtsinger- Brown reunion set for Sept. 20

    The Curtsinger and Brown families will have a reunion 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Anderson County Community Park Extension Building.

    Descendents of Blanche Gilbert, J.R., Lucy Belle, Eugene and Betty are also invited. All family and friends are invited.

    Anderson County High School will host a College Career Tailgate 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 in the front of the old schoolhouse. The goal is provide an opportunity for high school students and parents to communicate with local businesses and organizations to discuss career opportunities in Anderson County and high school/college preparations necessary for employment.

  • Willard anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Willard will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Sept. 5.

    Mr. Willard and the former Eudenia Casey were married Sept. 5, 1964 at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church. Bro. M. J. Hampton performed the ceremony.

    Mrs. Willard is a daughter of Jewell and Louise Casey. She is retired from the Soil Conservation Service. Mr. Willard is a son of Haskell and Nina Mae Willard. He is retired from Square D and is owner-operator of Alton Tool and Die.
