  • Anderson County Historical Society to meet

    The Anderson County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting March 28 at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Public Library.
    The speaker, Ms. Shirley Tierney, will discuss the history of the Freeman-Mann Furniture Store in Lawrenceburg. The meeting is free and open to the public.
     

  • Pierian Woman’s Club gears up for Hats Off! style show

    At the Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club’s regular meeting Feb. 21, plans were underway for the annual luncheon and style show, Hats Off!, to be held Saturday, April 27 at the Family Living Center of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, according to a press release.
    Proceeds from the luncheon are used by the club for various scholarships and art awards for local high school students.
    Beginning at 11:30 a.m., a silent auction will benefit the Backpack Buddies project. Several local businesses, as well as club members, are being asked to donate auction items.

  • News briefs: Mount Eden Ruritans to host fish fry

    The annual Mount Eden Ruritan Club Fish Fry will be held Friday, March 29 at 5 p.m. at the Mount Eden Ruritan Grounds
    Tickets are $10 and the meal includes fish, slaw, baked beans, potato wedges, dessert and drink.

    Little Prince/Princess Sale set at Turner
    A semi-annual sale to raise funds for children’s charities is scheduled for March 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Turner Elementary School.

  • ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to host community day

    Children can meet the characters from the Anderson County High School’s upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast” during a “Community Day” event on March 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Anderson County High School lobby.
    Children ages 2-10 are invited to play games, meet the characters and win prizes, according to the drama department’s press release.
    The Anderson County High School drama department’s production of “Beauty and the Beast” will be performed March 15-16 at 7 p.m., and March 17 at 2:30 p.m.

    The Anderson County Extension Office will offer three educational programs starting March 21.
    With increased fertilizer prices, hay is becoming much more expensive to purchase or to bale on your own, according to a news release.
    In recent years the Anderson County Extension office has looked at a number of crops and alternative forages to extend the grazing season and reduce your dependence upon stored feeds.
    The office will be hosting a workshop March 21, titled Strategies for Maximizing the Grazing Season.

  • Beekeeping school at Kentucky State scheduled for March 9

    Kentucky State University will host the 2013 Bluegrass Beekeeping School on March 9 in Frankfort, according to a news release.
    The school will include talks on many aspects of hive management, conducting beekeeping businesses, and classes about how to produce additional products from the hive such as candle making, making lotions and hand bars, and pollen collection and processing.
    Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the lobby of Bradford Hall at Kentucky State University. Pre-registration is suggested and is available at www.ksbabeekeeping.org.
