  • Wildlife officer Goodlett assigned to Anderson County

    Fish and Wildlife Officer David Goodlett was assigned earlier this year to Anderson County, according to a news release.
    He completed the 18-week law enforcement basic training program with the Department of Criminal Justice Academy at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond and then completed the KDFWR Academy 10-week course.
    He has completed the basic requirements of every Kentucky peace officer.

  • Coroner’s office appoints two new deputies

    Steve Votaw and Richard Medley were sworn in recently as deputies of the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, Coroner Dr. Mark Tussey announced.
    Votaw, a retired Fish and Wildlife law enforcement officer, and Medley, a former senior EMT with Anderson County EMS and firefighter, will continue to serve Anderson County as members of the coroner’s office. In a news release, Tussey expressed his satisfaction over the skills of the department, “adding to the medical expertise, we now have expertise from law enforcement and EMS/fire department.”

  • Magic show will feature Houdini classic

    Roger and Lee Ann Despard of Cynthiana will perform magic tricks and illusions at the Grand Illusion Magic Show, held at the Anderson County Middle School gym at 7 p.m. and sponsored by the Lawrenceburg Lions Club.
    With more than 30 years of experience, Roger Despard is the only 60-year-old magician in the United States still performing Harry Houdini’s classic death-defying Milk Can Escape, according to a press release.
    Advance tickets are $7.50 and $10 at the door for adults, $7.50 for students.

  • News seeks Halloween community photos

    The Anderson News will be accepting community photos of readers’ Halloween activities, costumes and festivities for its Nov. 2 edition of the newspaper.
    Readers can upload high-resolution photos to the News’ community forum page, “Anderson NewsHound” on Facebook.
    Please include the names of the individuals in the pictures, who they are supposed to be dressed up as, and any other relevant information.

  • Get rid of unwanted prescription drugs

    Residents can get rid of unwanted prescription medications during a “Take Back Drug Day” organized by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
    Participants can bring expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs to the sheriff’s office and dispose of them anonymously with no questions asked, according to a news release. The event is free.

  • Historical Society to discuss unified government Oct. 27

    The Anderson County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the Anderson Public Library.
    This month’s speaker, local attorney and community leader Walter Patrick, will discuss the concept and advantages of combined city and county government.
    The meeting is free and open to the public.

  • Gilkerson and Gilkison family reunion to be held Oct. 29

    The Gilkerson/Gilkison family reunion will be Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Legion Hall on Legion Road in Paris.
    Bring a covered dish for sharing and soft drinks of your choice.
    Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. Utensils, napkins, plates, lemonade and coffee will be furnished.
    Bring family tree information and anything to display at the reunion.
    Bring children, brothers, sisters, and any other family members to the reunion.
    The six-member committee is looking forward to seeing everyone.
