The Anderson County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the Anderson Public Library.
This month’s speaker, local attorney and community leader Walter Patrick, will discuss the concept and advantages of combined city and county government.
The meeting is free and open to the public.

The Gilkerson/Gilkison family reunion will be Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Legion Hall on Legion Road in Paris.
Bring a covered dish for sharing and soft drinks of your choice.
Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. Utensils, napkins, plates, lemonade and coffee will be furnished.
Bring family tree information and anything to display at the reunion.
Bring children, brothers, sisters, and any other family members to the reunion.
The six-member committee is looking forward to seeing everyone.

Twelve 4-H members represented Anderson County at the State 4-H Shooting Sports Contest held Sept. 17-18.
They competed in several divisions including archery compound bare bow, archery bow hunter, archery target bow and shotgun.  Anderson County had several top individual scorers as well as two state champion teams.
Justin Mehs placed third in the 15-18 age category of the bow hunter division. Ethan Steele placed first in the 12-14 age category of the target bow division, and was also the overall high scorer for all age groups.

It’s time again for the creepy decorations, falling leaves, endless costumes, and lit Jack-o-lanterns. As families across the country begin to prepare for what has become an increasingly popular holiday, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is reminding everyone to take a few simple safety precautions in order to ensure a fun, safe, and not too scary Halloween.
NFPA offers the following safety tips to help keep horror from striking your home this season:
