  • Woodford Theatre to host auditions for future Huck Finn production

    The Woodford Theatre recently announced it would be hosting auditions for its upcoming production “Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Production dates have been set for April 25-27, May 2-4 and May 9-11.
    Auditions are scheduled to be held Saturday, Jan. 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 19 from noon to 3 p.m.
    Callbacks are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20 from 7-9 p.m. Other dates and times will be by appointment.
    Auditions will be held at the Woodford Theatre, 275 Beasley Drive in Versailles.

  • Police encourage parents to set up safety profile through 911

    Jan. 13 was Amber Alert Awareness Day, marking the 18-year anniversary of the day Amber Hagerman was abducted while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and later found murdered, according to a news release issued by the Lawrenceburg Police Department.
    In April of 2003, in her honor, President Bush signed into law the Protect Act, which statutorily established the national Amber Alert coordinator role. Since, the program has been credited with more than 675 successful recoveries of missing or abducted children.

  • Health department to offer food managers training

    The Anderson County health department will be offering mandatory food managers training courses starting Jan. 19 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at the health department.
    The training class will also be offered Jan. 21 from 12:30-4:30 p.m.
    According to the release, the class is based on the Serve-Safe video. The training class includes discussion and an exam will be given.

  • Library offers classes, events for January

    The Anderson Public Library will offer the following free classes in January. All classes are subject to cancellation and class space is limited to five students. Students will use the library’s laptops.

  • CCU wins ‘Spirit of Giving’ award
  • Auxiliary visits Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore

    Ten members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 34 went to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore on Dec. 15 for a Christmas party for the Roosevelt unit. Shopping was done from a wish list provided for the 50 residents. Unit 34 members helped pass out food provided by Veterans Center and gifts for veterans provided by the Auxiliary and Legion Post 34.
    Veterans asked for and received sweatsuits, sweaters, jackets, robe, Marilyn Monroe décor, shirts, word find puzzles and University of Louisville and Kentucky items. Cookies were also taken for a later snack .

  • Four Roses named American Whiskey of the Year

    “Whisky Advocate” recently named Four Roses’ 2013 Limited Edition 125th Anniversary Small Batch Bourbon its choice for “American Whiskey of the Year,” according to a news release.
    Four Roses Master Distiller Jim Rutledge personally chose three of Four Roses’ 10 unique bourbon recipes to create the new barrel strength, small batch bourbon.

    Extension office offers
    variety of classes
    The Anderson Extension office, located in the county park, will offer the following classes over the next several weeks. Some class sizes are limited. For more information, call 839-7271.

    Nurturing Parenting Skills
    Parents who are involved in dependency cases only, must have referral from caseworker. Wednesday evenings beginning Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.  Cost is $15 for entire 16-week course.

  • Red Cross offers CPR, first aid and babysitting classes

    The American Red Cross will offer babysitter’s training plus pediatric first aid/CPR certification on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 2 and 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Red Cross building, located at 318 Washington St. in Frankfort.
    The class is for 11- to 15-year-olds.
    The cost is $140 per person, and students must be pre-registered and prepaid to attend.
    Students must bring a sack lunch each day.
