  • Honoring Anderson County Veterans
  • Friends of the Library to meet

    The Friends of the Library is scheduled to meet Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the library. New members are welcome.
    Friends of the Anderson Public Library meets the second Wednesday of the month at the library at 5:30 p.m.
    If there is no school, there will be no meeting.
     

  • Homemakers collect denim for recycling program

    The Anderson County Extension Homemakers recently collected 60 pairs of jeans for the “Cotton, From Blue to Green” recycling program.
    This program recycles denim to produce natural insulation that is chemical free and safe to touch.
    The Ultra Touch Denim insulation is used in homes built by Habitat for Humanity.  

  • Library celebrates Halloween
  • Rotary Club to host ‘holiday help drive’

    The Lawrenceburg Rotary Club is hosting a “holiday help drive” for the Anderson County community by collecting non-perishable food items and winter wear now through January 1, 2013.
    The club is asking for non-perishable food items, coats, gloves, scarves, winter hats, blankets, sweatpants and sweatshirts. The winter wear collected will be given to Anderson County schools. Food collected will be donated to the Lawrenceburg Open Hands food pantry.

  • Band finishes season with one final win

    The Anderson County Marching Bearcats brought home one final trophy to add to their growing awards collection for the 2012 season — grand champion of the Mid-States 3A Championships.
    The band placed third in semifinals and went on to beat 13 other groups from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan at last Saturday’s marching contest in Ohio.

  • Brandt wins speech contests

    Cynthia Brandt of Lawrenceburg recently claimed top honors in two Toastmasters contests, according to a news release.
    Brandt won first place both at the area (composed of four clubs) and division (three areas, 13 clubs) levels against competitors from the central Kentucky region.
    Brandt, a member of Capital City Toastmasters in Frankfort, represented Bluegrass Division E Toastmasters in the District 40 Humorous Speech Contest in Cincinnati on Nov. 3 where she competed against seven other division winners from Ohio and West Virginia.

  • Annual chili lunch to benefit CASA

    A chili lunch to raise funds for the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Franklin and Anderson counties is scheduled for Nov. 9 at the VFW Hall on Second Street in Frankfort, the organization announced.
    This annual fundraiser, now in its fourth year, is provided by the Optimist and Kiwanis Clubs of Frankfort.
    Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. by dine-in, carry-out or drive- thru.  The cost is $5 for a bowl of chili (vegetarian available), cake and drink.
    As with any fundraiser, donations are appreciated, organizers said.

  • Auxiliary Veterans Day celebration to be held Nov. 11

    A Veterans Day celebration sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary will held at the American Legion Post 34 on Nov. 11 at 3 p.m.
    The service will be held in the Patriot Hall building, and there will be a guest speaker.
    Three churches will be serving a free meal to Anderson County veterans and a spouse or guest of the veteran following the service.
    The Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg will also be holding a Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
