  • Homecoming set for Mount Hebron Church, cemetery

    Homecoming and a potluck lunch are scheduled for June 11-12 to benefit Mount Hebron Cemetery, organizers announced in a news release.
    The lunch is scheduled for June 12, and will raise funds to help preserve what cemetery officials said is one of the oldest active cemeteries in the state.
    “If have not visited the cemetery recently, you are encouraged to do so at this time, and see for yourself the efforts being made to reclaim this hallowed site from the effects of time,” said Luther Davenport, secretary of the cemetery board.

  • Four Roses’ limited edition earns praise

    Four Roses’ 2010 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon was ranked No. 3 on Paul Pacult’s list of the 140 Top Five-Star Spirits in the World for 2011, the distillery announced.
    F. Paul Pacult, renowned liquor industry critic and publisher of The Spirit Journal, “The Quarterly Independent Guide to Distilled Spirits, Beers and Wines,” named Four Roses’ 2010 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon a five-star recommendation, the highest possible, last September.

  • Frankfort Regional wins quality award

    Frankfort Regional Medical Center was recently awarded Kentucky Hospital Association’s (KHA) Quality Award at the KHA annual conference in Louisville, the hospital announced.
    Recognized in the 100-to-250-bed size category, Frankfort Regional received the award for excellence in innovation in quality, safety and commitment in patient care. All acute hospitals, psychiatric hospitals and programs and post-acute hospitals and programs in Kentucky were eligible for the award, according to a news release.

  • Rep. Chandler helps craft bill to tax bourbon fairly

    Kentucky Congressmen Geoff Davis (R) and Ben Chandler (D) introduced last week H.R. 1986, the Aged Distilled Spirits Competitiveness Act of 2011 to amend the tax code to end the inequitable tax treatment of aged distilled spirits such as bourbon, according to a news release from Chandler’s office, who represents Anderson County as part of his congressional district.
    Inequality in the current rules forces distillers of aged spirits to carry additional inventory costs over the long periods of time required to create these products.

  • Aerobics, Tae Bo classes scheduled

    Classes in aerobics and Tae Bo are scheduled to begin June 13, Anderson Community Education announced.
    The classes will begin June 13 at Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church on Carlton Drive.
    Classes will run for six weeks on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 to 7. Call 839-3754 for details.
    Cost is $29, and classes are open to those 12 and older. Registration will take place on the first night of class.

  • Food that’s in when school is out

    The Anderson County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service program.
    Meals will be provided to all children without charge.
    Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability.
    Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows, with the exceptions of July 4 and July 7:
    Early Childhood Center, 126 N. Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342
    June 6-July 29
    Breakfast: 8:15-9:15 a.m.

  • Stamp Club to meet June 11

    The June meeting of the Kentucky Stamp Club will be held at 2 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 130 Holmes St., Frankfort.
    A program including a drawing for stamp collecting prizes will be featured as well as a discussion of topical stamp collecting.
