    CASA to conduct annual Boot Drive
    Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will conduct its annual Boot Drive on Saturday, April 9, the organization announced.
    Volunteers are scheduled to be at Ace Hardware, Kroger, Tractor Supply and Walmart, accepting donations, which can also be mailed to CASA of the Bluegrass, Box 193, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.
    The drive is being conducted in concert with Child Abuse Month.

    Community Service Day set
    Community Service Day is scheduled this year for April 15, according to a news release.
    Now in it third year, the day is designed to encourage residents to perform community service at a variety of locations across Anderson County.
    The day was designated here by Mayor Sandy Goodlett, and has been designated by mayors of other communities nationwide.

  • Felon offered probation after pleading to handgun charge

    A convicted felon who pleaded guilty to being in possession of a handgun is expected to be placed on probation when he is sentenced April 5 in Anderson Circuit Court.
    Jeffery Brewer, 50, who lived at 1300 Drydock Road at the time of his arrest, was indicted on a Class C felony for being a felon in possession of a firearm and wanton endangerment after he allegedly pointed a loaded .45 caliber handgun at his wife on Christmas Eve of 2014.

  • Gay nabs scholarship to 4-H teen conference

    Anderson County student Emma Gay was selected as one of the 30 winners/recipients of a state gold award and will receive a full scholarship to the Teen Conference this summer at the UK.
    She will also receive an $800 scholarship toward attending National 4-H Congress Conference.
    In the highly competitive 4-H Achievement Program, young people receive recognition and prizes for their accomplishments in 4-H and their community.

  • Painting class offered

    Elements Clay Studio will host an adult canvas painting class at 6 p.m. April 14.
    “Salt Box Street” is a primitive-style painting that will be the first in a series of three. Painters can sign up for one or all three.
    No previous painting experience is necessary. Class fee is $25 per person and seating is limited.
