    Ruritans plan fish fry
    The Mount Eden Ruritan Club will host its annual fish fry April 6 from 5 to 8 p.m., the club announced.
    The meal will include fish, coleslaw, baked beans, potato wedges, drink and dessert.

    Blood drive set for April 10
    The Kentucky Blood Center will host a blood drive Tuesday, April 10 from 12:30 to 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg, the organization announced.

  • Health department offers free radon test kits

    Testing a home for deadly radon is simple — and free.
    The Anderson County Health Department is offering free radon test kits, according to a news release.
    Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas released in rock, soil and water from the natural decay of uranium, according to health department nurse April Thomas.
    While levels in outdoor air pose a relatively low threat to human health, radon can accumulate to dangerous levels inside buildings.

  • Four Roses to release limited edition single barrel bourbon

    This spring, Four Roses Distillery will issue the newest release in its series of limited-quantity special bottlings with the 2012 Limited Edition Single Barrel Bourbon, which will be bottled at barrel strength and encompass a spicy, full-bodied recipe, the distillery announced.

  • Art emporium offers spring fling open house

    The Lawrenceburg Art Emporium, located at Highway 513 West and 1136 Bond Mills Road, will host a spring fling open house on March 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    The open house will feature art demonstrations, food and other activities.
    There will be chair massages available for donations to Anderson Humane Society.
    Bring your camera for a nature walk photography session guided by an award-winning photographer.

  • Central Baptist Church hosts shoe drive

    Central Baptist Church is participating in its fifth year of the Soles4Souls shoe collection.
    Last year nearly 3,000 pairs of shoes were collected and processed by the church.
    A drop box is available at the church 24 hours a day, or donors may call for free pick-up of shoes.
    Shoes will be accepted through April 30.
    Shoes for all ages and all types are accepted, new and used.
    Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization that donates millions of pairs of shoes, new and used, annually to people with needs all over the world.

  • Friends of Library to meet

    Friends of the Anderson Public Library is scheduled to meet April 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the library.
    New members are welcome. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month at the library at 5:30 p.m.
    If there is no school, there will be no meeting.

    Horseman receives
    Impact Award
    Barbara Horseman of Lawrenceburg was honored March 20 by the Bluegrass Alliance for Women for her efforts to improve the economic status of women and girls in Anderson County, according to a news release.
