An added feature at the upcoming Pierian Woman’s Club Luncheon and Style Show will be a silent auction to benefit the Back Pack Buddies Program, established in Anderson County by Lawrenceburg First Christian Church.
Some families rely on free or reduced-price lunches to feed their children during the week. On weekends, many parents struggle to put meals on their tables; other families may be negligent, according to a news release from the club.

Mercer County residents Ric Maxfield, Karen Maxfield and Adam Hopkins, and Anderson County resident Chuck Bowman of the Royal Blue Bluegrass Band has announced the release of their latest CD, a self-titled project named Royal Blue.
The group began recording the CD last December, which was produced and directed by bluegrass music great Ron Stewart, according to a news release.
It’s the group’s fourth CD and contains 11 familiar bluegrass songs and one original, “Lucto Breakdown,” featuring Bowman on banjo.

At its March meeting, the Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s club hosted members of the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International women’s social, cultural and service organization for a salad and dessert supper at the First Christian Family Life Center.
The evening’s program included a talk by local author K. Melissa Burton, who described her historical children’s books and her latest title, “With Purpose and Promise.”

A former resident of Lawrenceburg has been inducted posthumously into the Pleasant Valley Hall of Fame in Jacksonville, Ala.
Ruth Boggs Taylor, a teacher at Pleasant Valley High School, died in the fall of 2009.
She was inducted into the hall of fame because she was an exceptional teacher, said her sister, Margie B. Stratton. Her students excelled each year.
A graduate of Anderson High School, she worked awhile at Universal Fasteners. She then married Ralph Taylor and they moved to his home state of Alabama, where they both attended Union College.
