  • Library offers January computer classes for community

    The Anderson Public Library will offer the following classes in January:

    Basic I class: Intro
    to computers
    When: Jan. 11 or Jan. 25, 9:30-11 a.m.
    This class is for the beginner. The main goal is to ease anxieties about using the computer. Topics include parts of the computer and mouse/keyboard skills.
    No previous computer skills required.
    Registration in advance is required.

    Basic II class: Intro
    to the internet
    When: Jan. 11 or Jan. 25, 5:30-7 p.m.

  • Friends of the Library to meet

    The Friends of the Library is scheduled to meet Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the library, organizers announced.
    New members are welcome.
    Friends of the Anderson Public Library meets the second Wednesday of the month at the library at 5:30 p.m.
    If there is no school, there will be no meeting.
     

  • CASA seeks volunteers

    The Court Appointed Special Advocates agency for Anderson and Franklin counties is seeking volunteers, according to a news release.
    Volunteers must complete a 30-hour training period before taking on cases.
    Training will begin this month.
    The training curriculum will include volunteer panels, guest speakers and some homework.

  • Community ed offers fitness classes

    The following fitness classes will be offered in the coming weeks, Anderson Community Education announced.
    Pre-registration is required by calling 839-3754 or by email at jacque.zeller@anderson.kyschools.us.

    Aerobics, Tae Bo
    When: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 16, 6 to 7 p.m.
    Where: Saffell Street Elementary cafeteria with certified instructor, Doris Thompson.
    Cost: $29

  • Teams sought, prizes offered for Lawrenceburg’s ‘Biggest Loser’

    Those interested in participating in Lawrenceburg’s version of the popular television show, “Biggest Loser,” will meet 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 at Sovereign Grace Church, located in the West Park Shopping Plaza near Tractor Supply.
    Teams consisting of four members will be formed for the 12-week competition. Those unable to construct a four-person team will be paired with teams that need additional members.

  • Auxiliary hosts Lunch with Santa

    The American Legion Auxiliary hosted Lunch With Santa on Dec. 4 at the American Legion clubhouse.
    Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived on a fire truck, and those attending enjoyed hot dogs, chips, jelly sandwiches, cookies and soft drinks, organizers said.
    Each child was allowed to sit on Santa’s lap for a photo and a bag of candy and were given a form to fill out, telling Santa what they wanted for Christmas.

  • Frankfort Regional Hospital earns best workplace award

    Frankfort Regional Medical Center’s Information Technology & Services (IT&S) department was recognized by Healthcare IT News in the “Where to Work: BEST Hospital IT Departments” in the Medium Hospital (101-350 beds) size category, the hospital announced.
    Healthcare IT News was expected to profile the Best Hospital IT Departments nationwide in its December 2011 Special Supplement Report.
