  • Summer reading program headlines host of public library happenings

    The Anderson Public Library Summer reading program is going on now.

    This year’s theme is “Spark a reaction, read!”

    Here are upcoming events:

    •Summer Reading Monday: now through July 14 from 10-10:30 a.m. for toddles up to 2 years old at the Story time Class in the library.

    This is a fun way to start the Toddlers involvement in a Story time Class.

  • CASA seeks volunteers

    Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children of the Bluegrass is seeking dedicated volunteers to begin training in July.

    CASA is a national organization, which provides trained volunteers to serve as advocates for abused, neglected, or dependent children involved in family court.

    These volunteers provide factual, unbiased reports to the court while working toward a plan that ensures that the children are in safe and permanent homes as quickly as possible.

  • Chamber scramble raised $5,000 for operational costs

    Scott Brothers Construction was champ and Lawrenceburg Supply finished runner-up but everybody who participated in the recent Anderson County Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble was a winner.

    The annual event, held at Wild Turkey Trace Golf Course, raised $5,000 for operational expenses.

    It is one of three major events the Chamber holds - Business Expo, Golf Scramble and Annual Gala - to raise money for operating the Chamber, according to Chamber Pres. Pam Brough.

  • Habitat for Humanity announces EGGfest ‘14

    Lexington Habitat for Humanity announced that this year’s EGGFest fundraiser will held Sat., June 21, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in Housewarming’s parking lot, behind IHOP on New Circle Road, just off Palumbo Drive.

    Proceeds from EGGFest will benefit Lexington Habitat for Humanity. Created to celebrate the legendary Big Green Egg, “The Ultimate Cooking Experience,” EGGFest is an annual fundraiser that features celebrity chefs showcasing their grilling, smoking and cooking prowess.

  • USDA announces changes to fruit, vegetable, wild rice planting rules

    USDA’s Farm Service Agency announced fruit, vegetable and wild rice provisions that affect producers who participate in certain programs authorized by the Agricultural Act of 2014.

    “Similar to previous programs that we’ve administered, planting fruits, vegetables or wild rice on base acres on a farm can result in a payment reduction for program participants,” said John W. McCauley, state executive director for the Kentucky FSA.

    Fair pageants start Saturday

    The Lawrenceburg Fair and Horse Show Pageants start Sat., June 21 at 7 p.m. with the Miss Teen, Miss Pre-Teen and Princess pageants.

    •The Miss Lawrenceburg pageant will be held Mon., June 23 at 7 p.m.

    •The under 2-year-old baby show will be held Tues., June 24 at 6 p.m.

    •The 2-year-old baby girl and baby boy, 3-year-old Wee Miss and 3-year-old Wee Mister and 4-year-old Tiny Miss and Tiny Mister will be held Wed., June 25 from 6p.m.-7 p.m.
