  • Zumba dance fitness classes offered

    Anderson Community Education will offer a Zumba dance fitness class every Tuesday and Thursday beginning Jan. 15 in the Saffell Street Elementary cafeteria.
    Tonjua Casey is the certified instructor for the class.
    Session I will be held from 4:15-5 p.m. Session II will be held 5:15-6 p.m.
    The cost of the class is $5 per class or $45 for 10 classes.

  • American Legion Auxiliary pledges to donate to CASA

    The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 34 has pledged to donate $100 per month for a year to the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Abused and Neglected Children or CASA. This money will be paid quarterly, according to a release from the Auxiliary.
    “We are challenging every organization, business, church and individual to make a commitment to save our children by donating much needed money or by volunteering,” the release states. “Each person can make a difference.

  • Farmers Bank wins annual ‘Spirit of Giving’ food drive

    The Main Street and West Broadway branches of Farmers Bank were awarded the “Spirit of Giving” food drive mayor’s cup trophy after donating a collective 1,310 pounds of food to Open Hands food pantry.
    This year Lawrenceburg banks collected more than 2,700 pounds of food, 700 pounds more than last year, according to a news release from city hall.

  • Murphy to chair Commerce Lexington

    Lawrenceburg native Danny Murphy has been named chairman of the board for Commerce Lexington Inc., the group announced.
    Murphy is the assistant dean of administration and community engagement at the University of Kentucky’s College of Law.
    The group’s board of directors is instrumental in the success of the organization as it works toward its mission “to represent our members, creating the environment and opportunity for economic prosperity and quality living in Central Kentucky,” according to a news release.

  • Welsh to compete at state

    Lauren Welsh, the Anderson County 2013 Distinguished Young Woman, will participate in Kentucky’s Young Woman of the Year program on Jan.11 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Singletary Center for the Arts in Lexington.
    Tickets may be ordered by calling the Singletary Center at 859-257-8427 Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at the box office before each performance.
    Welsh is a daughter of John and Sue Welsh of Lawrenceburg.

  • Chrisman to attend meeting

    Lawrenceburg’s Randy Chrisman will be among the Kentucky voting delegation participating in the annual meeting of the American Farm Bureau in Nashville, according to a news release.
    The event, scheduled for Jan. 13-16, is the 94th annual meeting of the organization.
    Nearly 500 Kentuckians will travel to the event to help shape Farm Bureau’s national policy agenda for 2013, take in numerous informational seminars and compete for some of the country’s top agricultural honors in a variety of contests, according to a news release.

  • Anderson Public library announces calendar items for January

    Anderson Public Library will offer free yoga classes Jan. 3, Jan. 24 and 31 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. All levels are welcome. Mats are provided. Space is limited to 10 students per class. Reservations may be made at the circulation desk.
