‘Yes, Virginia’ opens Thursday

Saffell Street Elementary will perform the original musical “Yes, Virginia the Musical” on Thursday, Dec. 13 for two performances at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Saffell Street gym.
Music instructor Meredith Lewis recently received $1,000 in grant money from Macy’s, Inc., to produce the holiday musical based on the famous 1897 letter to the editor from Virginia Hanlon to New York Sun Editor Francis Church.

Saffell Street holds holiday-themed reading night

Saffell Street Elementary held a holiday-themed reading night on Dec. 4. Students listened to holiday stories and worked with their parents on crafts. The children also received a Christmas book from the Family Resource Center and had cookies and milk before departing for home.

‘Mimi’ a true inspiration, comforter and teacher for fifth grader

I am nominating my mimi, Kathy Waggner, for the AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the year essay contest. I think she deserves this title for many reason. As you read you may see what I mean.
My mimi is very special to me because my dad passed away when I was one and she is the only person I have left on his side of the family. She is always there to talk to me and comfort me when I am missing him and feeling down because I don’t get a chance to know or meet him. That is one reason my mimi is special to me.
