    Downing named
    outstanding grad
    Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) student Jennifer Downing of Lawrenceburg was selected as the 2012 Outstanding Program Graduate of the human services program, according to a news release from the school.
    Faculty members select one student from each of the BCTC programs as an outstanding program graduate.
    The distinction recognizes students who have exhibited strong leadership, exceeded criteria and expectations in their degree program, and demonstrated academic excellence.

  • Junior wins opportunity to test flight plan

    Anderson County High School junior Blake Roach recently won first place in the student technology leadership program state competition in the area of aviation, according to a news release.
    Roach has been invited to visit the Eastern Kentucky University’s Aviation Department and will have a chance to fly his winning flight plan on one of the university’s flight simulators.
    The competition, sponsored by EKU, consists of different aviation challenges each year.
    This year’s challenge was to construct a flight plan given specific criteria.

  • Drivers place in bus safety rodeo

    Clara Waldridge, Linda Curtsinger and Bill Curtsinger recently placed for Region Eight at the Bus Safety Rodeo at Spencer County Middle School on April 21.
    The Bus Safety Rodeo is an annual competition in which bus drivers across the state are tested in their driving safety skills used while transporting school children.
    Two drivers took second and third place in the conventional bus, and another driver took third place in the transit bus category, according to a news release.

  • Academy students compete in math Olympics

    Six schools participated in the ACSI or Association of Christian Schools International Math Olympics.  In the competition completed recently, students are tested in computation and reasoning (problem solving.)  Melody Dezarn had the highest CAL score, placing fifth out of all those students participating in the third grade.

  • Middle school holds first science fair

    Anderson County Middle School hosted its first science fair on April 19 for about 16 students with projects featuring a variety of studies — from duckling incubation to a tarantula’s habitat to the history of the phonograph.

    High School invites
    community to prom
    open house
    The students and faculty of Anderson County High School would like to invite the public to a prom open house on April 28 from 7-7:45 p.m.
    According to Chris Glass, associate principal, “During this time members of the community will be allowed to witness first hand the transformation the high school undergoes for our students’ magical evening.”  
    The tour will cost $1 and all proceeds will go to the 2013 prom fund.

  • Academy students named Governor’s Scholars

    Courtney Shaylyn Burton, Logan Adams Lynn II and Forrest Lee Bowman of the Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg, were recently selected for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program.
    The students completde an application process similar to that for admission to colleges or universities, and they were evaluated based on ACT, PSAT or SAT test scores, grade point average, and difficulty of their class load.

  • FFA hosts greenhouse sale

    Anderson County High School’s FFA will be hosting a grand opening of its chapter greenhouse on April 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school.
    The group will also be providing a large amount of BBQ grilled food at the event.
    According to adviser Brandon Fawbush, “The greenhouse sales are always very important to us in both serving the community and the community serving us with their purchases.”
