  • Agriculture Commissioner visits FFA students to promote license plate Ag Tag program

    Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture James Comer and State Rep. Kim King stopped by the Anderson County High School Jan. 29 to speak with local Extension representatives and FFA students to promote the state’s Ag Tag program.
    Starting in March, Anderson County drivers renewing their farm license plates have the option of donating $10 to be used toward 4-H, the FFA and Kentucky Proud.
    Those renewing their plates can ask their county clerk to put $10 toward programs that will come back to benefit Anderson County, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said.

    Burkhead named to University of Kentucky Dean’s List
    Dillon Burkhead of Lawrenceburg was named to the University of Kentucky College of Engineering Dean’s List for the 2012 fall semester.
    Burkhead is a senior at the University of Kentucky
    According to a news release, a student must be a full-time and have a GPA of 3.6 or above to be named to the Dean’s List.

  • Learning Center to host Army recruitment meeting

    The Anderson County Adult Learning Center will host a meeting Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. for those interested in learning more about joining the military.  
    Sgt. Adam Aguilar, U.S. Army, will be at the learning center to answer any questions about recruiting, ASVAB (vocational testing), occupations, physical requirements and retirement, according to a press release from the Learning Center.

  • Anderson Community Education offers new classes

    Anderson Community Education will offer the following courses.
    Puppy pre-school
    When: Saturday, Feb. 2 through Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.
    Where: Adult Learning Center, 219 E. Woodford St., with professional dog trainer Jean Gibowski
    Cost: $40
    Description: Learn how to turn your rambunctious puppy into a well-trained dog. The focus will be on socialization. Please bring proof of DAPP vaccinations for your puppy. This class is for puppies 8 to 16 weeks old.

  • Education briefs: 1-23-13

    Handy selected for wind ensemble
    Jessica Handy of Lawrenceburg was selected to perform in the University of Evansville’s wind ensemble at the Indiana Music Educators’ Association annual convention in Fort Wayne, Ind., the school announced.
    The 46-member ensemble — including Handy, who is majoring in music therapy — is among a select group of collegiate ensembles invited to perform at the IMEA convention, a professional development conference for Indiana music teachers.

  • BCTC students named to fall semester Dean’s List

    The following Anderson County students were named to the 2012 fall semester dean’s list at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, the school reported.
    Students need a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in courses numbered 100 or above to qualify.
