  • Anderson Community Education offers classes

    Anderson Community Education is offering a variety of classes over the next several weeks.
    Register by calling 839-3754 or in person at the office, located at 219 East Woodford St., Lawrenceburg.

    The Adult Learning Center is now open from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.

  • Saffell Elementary student performs in Lexington theater production

    Addie Miller, a second grader at Saffell Street Elementary School, is performing in the production of the classic story “Charlotte’s Web”  at Lexington Children’s Theatre.
    The cast consists of more than 20 young actors from Lexington and the central Kentucky area, high school age and younger.

  • Farm Bureau hosts youth, variety contest

    The Women’s Farm Bureau Federation Committee hosted its annual Outstanding Farm Bureau Youth and Variety Contest on Sept. 8 at the Anderson County High School Auditorium.
    The agriculture teachers, Drew Robinson and Brandon Fawbush, worked with their FFA students and had four girls and one boy to try out for the Outstanding Youth.
    To become and Outstanding Youth they each had to give a five minute interview before three judges and then present a two minute speech on Farm Bureau or agriculture.

  • Anderson County Public Schools earn Energy Star efficiency certification

    Five Anderson County School Buildings have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Energy Star certification, which signifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

  • Seven students named Green Scholars

    Seven students from Anderson County have been named Sen. Jeff Green Scholars. Local students include: Tyler Baker, Jessica Brumley, Megan Calvert, Rebecca Radcliffe, Sarah Schell, Steven Sims, Katelyn Wickizer.
    Students earn this designation by achieving a 4.0 grade point average all four years of high school and scoring at least a 28 composite on the ACT.

  • 3 in 10 juniors meet ACT reading standard

    Anderson County high school has remained consistent in its ACT composite score ranking for the third year in a row, but its 2011 ACT results for juniors still remain below state and national averages.
    ACT composite scores for Anderson County have stayed at 18.3 for the past three years, below national (21.1) and state composite scores (18.8).
    School districts in surrounding counties such as Franklin (19), Spencer (18.7) and Shelby (18.7) reported higher composite scores.
