  • Local student honored for research at state science meeting

    Torey Gilkison of Lawrenceburg was honored for her research at the 2010 Kentucky Academy of Science Annual Meeting.
    Gilkison was awarded second place in the ecology and environmental science category of the 2010 Undergraduate Paper Presentation Competition.
    Gilkison, a high school senior, attends the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky.
    She was selected during her sophomore year at Anderson County High School to spend the last two years of her high school career at the Gatton Academy.

  • Versailles students send care packages to Afghanistan

    Several classes from Southside Elementary in Versailles gathered supplies and wrote letters to send to the Marines in Afghanistan, according to Monica Elmore, who helped organize the project.

  • High school plans ‘Parent Connection Night’

    The faculty and staff of Anderson County High School invite all parents to attend the second Parent Connection Night of the year, the school announced in a news release.
    Parent Connection Night will be Thursday, Dec. 9 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
    Information about the evening’s activities, as provided by the high school, is below.

  • Scholarships now available to local seniors

    The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) will be accepting applications for Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships through Feb. 1, 2011, the agency announced.
    Students who will graduate from a Kentucky high school or earn a diploma through a home school program during the 2010-11 academic year are eligible to apply. The scholarships are worth up to $1,500 a year for four years of college.

    Three Anderson County High School Spanish students were honored guests at the annual convention of Kentucky’s World Language Teachers in Lexington in September.

    Saffell to host Veterans Day celebration
    Saffell Street Elementary School will host a Veterans Day celebration on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m.
    The school is collaborating with the Anderson County High School band, which will perform during the event.
    Three teachers at the school are veterans and will speak during the celebration.
    Saffell’s all-district honors choir members will also perform.
    Veterans, their families and other community members are invited to attend.

    Students at Saffell Street Elementary School took part in the democratic process last Thursday as they cast ballots in the National Student/Parent Mock Election.
