  • Cinders on private road called ‘morally correct but ‘technically incorrect’

    Judge-Executive Steve Cornish on Monday said he would “probably do it again” when asked about his decision to order cinders placed on a private road during last month’s ice storm.

    By Tuesday, he had issued a statement through County Attorney Bobbi Jo Lewis’ office, saying that while he still thought the decision was “morally correct,” he would in the future consult the county attorney before taking similar action.

  • Church musicians plead not guilty

    The two First Baptist Church keyboard players indicted last month on multiple felony charges for allegedly creating a fake commercial drivers license pleaded not guilty Friday morning during their arraignment in Franklin County Circuit Court, according to court documents.

  • GO BEARCATS: Bearcat mania sweeps through community

    C.J. Penny's dramatic 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat Shelby County on Tuesday night and propel the Bearcats into the Sweet 16 has set off a flurry of activities.

    The following events have been planned in support of the Bearcats' trip to the Sweet 16. More events will be added as details become available.

  • Penny's buzzer-beater propels Bearcats to state tourney

    NEW CASTLE – There was never any doubt in C.J. Penny’s mind.

    “I was going to take the shot and I was going to hit it,” Penny said after hitting a 3-pointer as time expired to send Anderson County past Shelby County, 52-49, for the Eighth Region championship on Tuesday night at Henry County High School.

    Anderson advances to the Sweet 16 for just the fourth time in school history and the first time since 1997.

  • GO BEARCATS: High school sold out of ticket allotment

    Anderson County High School sold out of its allotment of Sweet 16 tickets Monday morning.

    The school received approximately 800 pep section tickets from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association that were gone within 15 minutes of being put on sale. The school is unsure if it will be able to get more tickets from the KHSAA.

    Anderson will play Elliott County on Thursday, March 19 at 8 p.m. It will be the final first round game and will follow the Mason County-Shelby Valley game at 6:30.

  • Accused arsonist waives extradition

    The woman accused of setting her home on fire while her grandmother was still inside has waived extradition and is scheduled to be returned here from Arkansas later this month.

  • Turner sub investigation continues

    The police investigation into a substitute teacher dismissed for “inappropriate and unprofessional” behavior from Robert B. Turner Elementary School has been turned over the county attorney’s office.

    The substitute teacher, who has not been named by the school district or police, had not been charged with a crime as of Tuesday morning.

    Office Nathan Doty of the Lawrenceburg Police Department said he has turned over statements given by students and the results of his investigation to County Attorney Bobbi Jo Lewis.

    A pep rally in support of the Bearcats' trip to the Sweet 16 is scheduled for Monday, March 16 at around 2 p.m. at Anderson County High School. The public is welcome.

  • GO BEARCATS: Elementary, middle schools plan spirit days

    In support of the Bearcats' trip to the Sweet 16, several of the county schools have planned spirit days for the students.

    Robert B. Turner Elementary School has planned a spirit week for March 16-20. Monday, students are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team shirt or jersey. Tuesday, students can wear their favorite team hats to school. Wednesday, students can wear their favorite Turner Titan shirt. Thursday, students are encouraged to wear red in support of the Bearcats. Friday is camouflage day.
