  • December home sales plummet

    Real estate closings in Anderson County plummeted more than 50 percent in December, capping off a year that saw the county’s protracted real estate slump continue, according to statistics provided by the Lexington Board of Area Realtors.
    Only 13 home sales were recorded by realtors associated with the agency in December, a sizeable drop from the 28 closed last December.
    Home sales dipped overall in 2010, falling from 234 in 2009 to 226 last year.

  • School year extended to May 26

    UPDATED on WEDNESDAY, JAN. 26 — After missing 10 days of school this winter, Anderson County students are still scheduled to have a summer that starts before Memorial Day.
    Day 9 was missed on Monday, Jan. 24, after a light band of snow blanketed roadways overnight. Day 10 was missed on Wednesday, Jan. 26, as another system of snow and rain made its way through the area.
    Students will be in the classroom on the following days to make up for the first nine days missed: Jan. 31, Feb. 21, March 7, March 21, May 20 and May 23-26.

  • County schools closed today, Jan. 24

    Anderson County Schools will be closed today, Monday, Jan. 24, according to a One Call Now announcement from the district.

    A band of snow made its way through the area overnight creating hazardous travel conditions, especially early this morning.

    Anderson County Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 21, according to an announcement from the district's Twitter account around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

    Schools closed early Thursday to avoid transporting students in the middle of a snow storm that hit the area during the afternoon.

    Anderson and surrounding counties are under a winter storm warning through 1 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. A total of three to six inches is expected, the warning said.
