  • Everyone equal as grid season starts

    Right now, everyone is equal. The football season opens across the state Friday night with everyone pointing the first weekend in December when the state champions will be determined at Western Kentucky University.

    OK, we will be realistic and acknowledge that even though everyone is 0-0 right now, some are more equal than others. Suffice it to say that the odds of Trinity or Bowling Green being happy in early December are much higher than just about every other team in the state.

  • Grand jury indictments

    The following people were indicted July 19 by the Anderson County Grand Jury.

    Melissa Gilliam of 118 Bell St., Lawrenceburg was indicted for first-degree illegal possession of a controlled substance (heroin); operating under the influence; reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign.

    The indictments stem from an incident May 28.

    Jennifer Cox of 200 Adams Lane, Frankfort was indicted on two counts of third-degree burglary, stemming from an incident April 26 at 1000 Bypass North.

  • Suspect brawls with cops after being denied cigarette

    One police officer was cut and two exposed to “contaminated” blood during an altercation with a burglary suspect who became combative while being loaded into a jail van last Thursday at the Lawrenceburg Police Station.
    Justin Whetzel, 31, became “increasingly agitated” after he was denied a request to smoke a cigarette while being prepared to be transported from the police station to jail, according to police reports.

    Feb. 15
    Jonathan Collins was charged with theft by unlawful taking by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

    Feb. 16
    Melissa Mattingly was charged with failure to appear by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
    James West was charged with second-degree assault by the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

  • Armed robber holds up Versailles Road gas station

    Police are searching for clues and help after an armed robber held up the Prime Star convenience store Saturday night, according to a news release from the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

    The suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money, according to the news release. The suspect then fled the store with cash and cigars and was last seen running behind the business.

    Two clerks working at the time were not harmed, police said.

  • Man charged with first-degree armed robbery

    A man who allegedly lured a woman to a strip mall on Broadway before shoving a pistol in her face and stealing her money Dec. 16 has been arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, according to court documents.

    Dakota Farler, 20, of Owenton Avenue in Frankfort, allegedly pulled a pistol and told the victim to give him her money. He remained in custody as of Tuesday morning in the Shelby County Detention Center.

    He was arraigned Monday in Anderson District Court, where he entered a plea of not guilty.

    Seth Lenguadoro was charged with failure to appear by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

    Tami Amburgey was charged with public intoxication by the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

    Trevor Rakestraw was charged with failure to appear by the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

    Mitchell Ravelich was charged with DUI by the Lawrenceburg Police Department.

    Ashley Taylor was charged with failure to appear or pay by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Two charged with stealing shotguns on Macland Drive

    A pair of Lawrenceburg men were charged Oct. 20 with stealing guns from a residence on Macland Drive, according to police reports.

    Ryan Eckhart and Shannon Cunningham, both of 1141 Versailles Road, reportedly entered the residence and swiped a .12 gauge and .410 gauge shotgun.

    They were arrested on a bench warrant by the Kentucky State Police.

    Both entered pleas of not guilty Oct. 22 in Anderson District Court and are next scheduled to appear Oct. 29.
