  • 100 years of basketball: Sports in a new world

    Victor Brown never claimed to be a great athlete. “I was the only boy from Lawrenceburg that didn't play basketball,” smiles Brown, who graduated from Lincoln Institute in 1959. “Those teams were just so good.”

    But Brown was a huge fan of the Tigers in those days, just as he is one of the Anderson County Lady Bearcats' biggest supporters today. His daughter, Sydney, is the starting center for the Lady Cats, who are gunning for their second consecutive Eighth Region championship.

  • Westside Community announces special singing, Christmas program

    Westside Community Church recently announced its events and services for the month of December.
    During the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 12, Anita Walker will be singing.
    The following Sunday, Dec. 19, the Sunday school classes will present a Christmas program.
    On Tuesday, Dec. 21, the church will visit Heritage Hall for music and fellowship.
    “Everyone is invited,” organizers said in a news release. “Help sing Christmas carols to the seniors.”
