  • Rash of copper thefts under investigation

    A recent “rash” of copper thefts in the city prompted Police Chief Chris Atkins to ask the city council, and Lawrenceburg citizens as well, to look out for suspicious activity.
    Atkins reported the recent increase of copper thefts in the city during a departmental report at the city council’s Monday meeting.
    “They’re targeting specific items outside of residences and businesses,” Atkins said at the meeting.

  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Lady Bearcats have opportunity to avenge only defeat


    The highly-ranked Anderson County girls' basketball team has a chance for a payback next Tuesday night when the Lady Bearcats travel to Bryan Station.

  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Lady Bearcats pummel Spencer


    Anderson County rolled past Spencer County, 66-16, Friday night in Taylorsville. Anderson won its 23rd straight game against 30th District competition and its ninth straight overall this year.

    “All played well,” Anderson County coach Tony Kays said in an e-mail. “We executed on offense and defense.”

  • BOYS' BASKETBALL: Bearcats defeat Carroll County


    Jay Smith, Austin Cummins and Christian Estes scored 16 points each as Anderson County defeated Carroll County 63-54 in boys' basketball action Thursday night in Carrollton.

    The Bearcats led all four quarter stops but were unable to pull away until the final eight minutes when they outscored the Panthers 24-19. Cummins and Estes both scored eight points in the final frame.

  • BOYS' BASKETBALL: Bearcats look to get good tournament seed


    The Anderson County boys' basketball team can virtually wrap up a two-seed and keep hopes alive for the top placing in the 30th District Tournament when the Bearcats host Spencer County next Tuesday.

    But first, Anderson will host Western Hills on Friday, Jan. 18.

    It was almost three weeks after Christmas, but the Anderson County wrestling team might have gotten the best gift it could have during Saturday's sectional duals.

    The Bearcats got healthy.


  • UPDATE: All Anderson County High sporting events canceled Tuesday

    All Anderson County High School athletic events scheduled for Tuesday night have been canceled, according to school athletic director Rick Sallee.

    The Anderson County girls' basketball game at Shelby County has been rescheduled for Wednesday night, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m. The junior varsity game is set to tip off at 6 p.m.

    The Anderson boys' home basketball game against North Oldham has not been rescheduled at this time.

    No word has been received on whether the Anderson wrestling match at Boyle County will be rescheduled.
