  • Relay for Life calendar: 1-25-12

    Jan. 25: Soup Supper, 5–6 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome. Cost $4 for adults, $2 for children. Menu includes potato soup or chili, cornbread, sandwiches and desserts. All proceeds go to Anderson County Relay for Life.
    Feb. 3: 2012 Relay Kickoff Meeting, 5:30–8 p.m. at Emma B. Ward Elementary School Library. Light refreshments will be served and committee members will be available to assist those needing team information, fund-raising ideas and/or general information concerning “Relay.” Please make every effort to attend.

  • High school hosts parent connection

    Anderson County High School will host its second installment of Parent Connection Night this year on Jan. 31.
    Parents are encouraged to meet faculty and learn more about opportunities for their students between 3:30-5:30 p.m.
    Parents may contact the guidance office to schedule individual parent/teacher conferences at 839-5118.  
    Jo Newton from KHEAA and Tara Lowder, the high school’s college coach, will be available in the east wing computer lab for students and parents to learn more about the FAFSA process, financial aid and college planning.

    Feb. 3: Ducks Unlimited Banquet, sponsored by Shelby County Ducks Unlimited Chapter
    Ducks Unlimited will host dinner with a silent and live auction at Claudia Sanders Dinner House on Feb. 3.  Happy hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner following. Auction, raffle and prize items include guided hunts, guns, gear and more. Tickets are $50 single or $60 per couple. Children are encouraged to attend.   • Birth: Beasley

    Jason and Brandie Beasley of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their daughter, Gabrielle Eliza-Jane Beasley, born May 12, 2011, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
    She weighed 8 pounds, 3/4 ounces and was 20 inches long.
    Eliza Jane was welcomed home by her sisters Karaline-Grace Beatrice Beasley, 11; Hannah-Michele Faith Beasley, 6; and her brother Jason-Lee Isaac Beasley, 8.
    Her maternal grandparents are Ricky Bruce and Sandy Stratton.
    Her paternal grandparents are John “Parley” and Linda Beasley, and the late Shirley Beasley.

  • Way We Were: J.P. McMichael retired from police force

    Jan. 25, 1962
    Wesley N. Sims, 26, was promoted to captain in Korea, where he was a member of the 1st Calvary Division. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin W. Sims.

    All Anderson County schools were closed Friday because of the condition of roads following a heavy snowstorm beginning that morning. Superintendent Andrew Bird said this is the only day this year that it was necessary to close the schools.
