  • Sex abuse trial set for Monday

    A jury trial in Anderson Circuit Court is scheduled to begin Monday for a man charged with raping, sodomizing and sexually abusing children under the age of 12.
    John C. Martin, who now lives in Versailles, is accused of forcing two children under 12 to drink Mountain Dew and Southern Comfort while performing sex acts on each other while he watched, according to documents on file in Anderson Circuit Court.
    At the time, Martin lived in Anderson County.
    He remains out of jail on $10,000 cash bail, but has been ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device.

  • Man’s penis amputation trial set for August

    Circuit Judge Charles Hickman set jury selection for Aug. 19 and opening arguments for Aug. 22 in the trial of Waddy resident Phillip Seaton, who is suing the surgeon who in 2008 amputated his penis.
    Hickman had postponed the original trial Jan. 10 because of a concern that a newspaper article published a few days earlier could have influenced the jury.
    Seaton and his wife, Deborah, are suing Dr. John Patterson, because they claim Patterson unnecessarily amputated Seaton’s penis.

  • Three Lawrenceburg students named to dean’s list at Georgetown College

    Three Lawrenceburg students were named to the dean’s list for the 2010 fall semester at Georgetown College, the college announced in a news release.
    The dean’s list honors undergraduate students who completed the semester with at least 12 hours and a 3.7 GPA.
    Students on the dean’s list are: Lee C. Birdwhistell, daughter of Terri Birdwhistell and Ben Birdwhistell; Caty A. Osborn, daughter of Scott and Linda Osborn; and Brandy Marie Smith, daughter of Bobby and Patricia Smith.
     

  • Shopping event will benefit shelters

    The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club will join the statewide chapters of the Kentucky Federation of Women’s Clubs as volunteers at the Feb. 5 Shop & Share program at Kroger supermarkets.
    Shop & Share promotes domestic violence awareness and collects donations of non-perishable food, personal care and housekeeping items to be distributed at domestic violence shelters across the state, according to a news release.

  • Westside Community announces events for month of February

    Westside Community Church recently announced its events and services for the month of February.
    Every Monday, the church will host a healing day of prayer and fasting. Prayer team leaders will be at the church from 5 to 8 p.m.

    Brother Gene Young will preach at 6 p.m. on Feb. 6 and every other Sunday evening.
    On Saturday, Feb. 12, the church will take a children’s trip to Monkey Joe’s. The group will leave the church at 10 a.m.

  • Dinner to benefit Shelby County Ducks Unlimited

    A dinner and live auction to benefit the Shelby County Ducks Unlimited Chapter, a wetland conservation and preservation organization, is planned for Friday, Feb. 4 at the Claudia Sanders Dinner House.
    Happy hour begins at 5:30 p.m., according to a news release. Auction, raffle and prize items include guided hunts, guns, gear and much more.
    The cost is $40 per person or $55 per couple.
