  • Students named to BCTC dean’s list

    The following Anderson County students were named to the spring semester dean’s list at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, the school announced.
    To be eligible, students must have a 3.5 grand point average.

  • Four selected outstanding grads

    Bluegrass Community and Technical College students Matthew W. Savoie, Steven Paul Coates, Heather Sparks Hacker and Charles L. Burton, all of Lawrenceburg, were selected 2011 Outstanding Program Graduates of their degree programs, according to a news release.
    Faculty members select one student from each of the BCTC programs as an Outstanding Program Graduate. The distinction recognizes students who have exhibited strong leadership, exceeded criteria and expectations in their degree program, and demonstrated academic excellence.

  • GED students receive degrees

    GED graduates received their degrees on June 6 at the 19th annual GED graduation ceremony in the Anderson County Middle School.
    About 15 graduates walked across the stage, some choosing to say a few words about the influence of their family, friends and instructors in receiving their degree.
    “I stand before you today, a graduated man,” said Phillip Addison, who received national adult education honors.

  • Aerobics, Tae Bo classes scheduled

    Classes in aerobics and Tae Bo are scheduled to begin June 13, Anderson Community Education announced.
    The classes will begin June 13 at Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church on Carlton Drive.
    Classes will run for six weeks on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 to 7. Call 839-3754 for details.
    Cost is $29, and classes are open to those 12 and older. Registration will take place on the first night of class.

  • Food that’s in when school is out

    The Anderson County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service program.
    Meals will be provided to all children without charge.
    Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability.
    Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows, with the exceptions of July 4 and July 7:
    Early Childhood Center, 126 N. Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342
    June 6-July 29
    Breakfast: 8:15-9:15 a.m.

  • Stamp Club to meet June 11

    The June meeting of the Kentucky Stamp Club will be held at 2 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 130 Holmes St., Frankfort.
    A program including a drawing for stamp collecting prizes will be featured as well as a discussion of topical stamp collecting.

  • Seniors eligible for farmers market coupons

    The sign up for farmers market coupons will be June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Anderson County Senior Center, 160 Township Square.
    Participants must be 60 or older, have a monthly income of $1,180 or less for a household of one person, or a monthly income under $1,594 for a household of two people.
    Those eligible should bring a picture ID, proof of income and their social security card to apply for the coupons.

  • Donate blood for chance to win truck

    Blood donors have a chance to win a 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck this summer.
    Those who register to give blood through Sept. 16 will be automatically entered to win a blue, extended-cab pickup.
    The next opportunity to pick up the blood supply and be entered to win is June 14 from 12:30-7 p.m. in the Fireside Room at First Baptist Church, 111 N. Main St. in Lawrenceburg.
    Those wanting to donate blood can call 800-775-2522 or visit www.kybloodcenter.org for blood drive and donor center details.
     

  • Box seats available for Lawrenceburg Fair, Horse Show

    Box seats for the 139th annual Lawrenceburg Fair and Horse Show are now available, the American Legion announced.  
    The fair is scheduled for June 25-July 2 at the American Legion Fairgrounds on Broadway in Lawrenceburg.
    Box seat tickets are $75 and include six passes and reserved parking for one car for the horse show nights on June 28-July 1.
    Box seats do not include carnival rides, which are available each night for $8 per person.
