    The Anderson Public Library will be offering the following classes in September. All classes are subject to cancellation, and class space is limited to five students.   • Puckett to celebrate 90th birthday

    A reception is set to be held in honor of Ethel Robinson Puckett in celebration of her 90th birthday on Aug. 25 from 2-4 p.m. at the Anderson County park building.
    All friends and relatives are invited to come visit and join the celebration. Event organizers request no gifts.
     

  • Bryant marks 90 years with open house

    A celebration in honor of Elizabeth (Mrs. Willard) Bryant’s 90th birthday will be held Sept. 1 in the fellowship hall of the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church.
    Friends and well wishers may pay their respects from 2:30-4:30 p.m., event organizers said in a release, and cards and good wishes are also appreciated.

    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

    to sponsor Make-A-Blanket Day
    Salvisa Christian Church will sponsor a Project Linus Make-A-Blanket Day on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Participants should feel free to come and go as they are able, event organizers said.
    A potluck lunch will be served. Event organizers ask that participants bring 1.5 yards of fleece in any color or characters pleasing to children aged infant to 18.

    A series of mysterious explosions early Friday injured a woman, destroyed a storage building, damaged several homes and automobiles and set fire to a 12,000 gallon kerosene tank at the Gulf Oil bulk plant at Princeton.
    “I yelled at my granddaughter to get out — I thought we were being bombed,” said Mrs. L.C. Holt, 68, who said three explosions rocked the area near her home.

  • Lawrenceburg police announce arrests, citations

    The Lawrenceburg police department recently issued the following arrests and citations:
    Diego M. Santos, 27, Mexico was arrested Aug. 11 and charged with speeding, no operator’s license, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in vehicle and DUI during a traffic stop on the US 127 Bypass by Officer Bryan Brashears.
    Derek Z. Carter, 34, Lawrenceburg was arrested Aug. 6 and charged with DUI, third degree possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on West Court Street by Officer Clay Crouch.
