  • Sports schedule correction

    The Anderson County girls' soccer team will be playing Franklin County Wednesday night, Oct. 7 with the varsity playing first at 5:30 p.m. Junior varsity will be after the varsity game.

    The Lady Bearcats will also be playing Bardstown on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. with no junior varsity game being played.

    Cheryl Compton and Larry Compton, both of Bowling Green, were married Sept. 14, 2013, on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Yorktown in Charleston, S.C.
    Thomas Doughty officiated the ceremony.
    The bride’s parents are Richard and Brenda Nolan of Lawrenceburg. The groom’s parents are Dwayne and Janett Compton of Bowling Green.
    The bride wore a dress by David’s Bridal with a lavender bouquet.
    The maid of honor was Debbie Trayner of Lawrenceburg, best friend of the bride.

  • Engagement: Tindall-Lockard

    Garry and Sandy Gaines of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Stephanie Nicole Tindall of Lawrenceburg, to Justin Brad Lockard of Lawrenceburg, son of Larry and Karen Lockard of Campton.
    The bride’s grandfather is William E. Rucker.
    The wedding is scheduled to take place Oct. 19, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Waddy. A reception will follow at the Anderson County community park Extension office building.

    Logan Feazell of Georgetown and Jodie Sutherland of Lawrenceburg, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.
    The groom is the son of Larry and Midge Feazell of Georgetown and is employed by Toyota.
    The bride is the daughter of Bill and Sabrina Sands and JB and Marcie Sutherland, all of Lawrenceburg, and is employed by LabCorp.

  • Bailey family reunion to be held Sunday

    The annual Bailey family reunion will be held Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Senior Activity Center, 202 Medical Heights, Frankfort, at 12:30 p.m. with a potluck lunch at 1 p.m.

    Sweepstakes winner
    Mrs. E.B. Sparrow, a three-time runner-up in the sweepstakes division of the Kentucky State Fair, copped the grand prize for the first time with her 90 entries in the fruit and vegetables, textile, art and craft and hobby show divisions.
    She was presented the sweepstakes rosette blue ribbons and a silver bowl. Sparrow was the sweepstakes winner at the Anderson County Agricultural Fair three years in a row.

    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

    In Sunday’s edition of the Lexington Herald-Leader an article was featured by Amanda Ripley, author of “The Smartest Kids in the World – and How They Got That Way” titled “Dedicated parents should just grab a book,” in which she described how parental involvement in the home encourages learning and better academic achievement of the children.
