  • Sports blog: UK women going for national title too

    It was an experience like none other I have had in 27 years of writing.

    I quickly accepted an invitation to watch the ESPN Selection Show for the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament with the Wildcats at Coach Matthew Mitchell's house Monday night.

    I hesitated – there were some things that needed to be tended to in Anderson County – but eventually accepted.

    And I have to admit it was an experience.

    Men’s Life Recovery Bible Study begins March 15
    Life Recovery, a biblically focused Addiction Recovery Bible study group, will be offered starting March 15 at the Open Hands Food Pantry every Thursday at 6 p.m.
    According to leaders of the study, “It’s designed to cover all forms of addiction from food, drugs, gambling, alcohol, pornography, sex, shopping and workaholics.

    Many celebrities and so-called role models showcase themselves with sexual immorality and vile behavior that mocks the rules and guidelines set out for Christians in the Bible.
    Homosexuality, violence and broken families are the new norm. Sin is accepted in our society and portrayed as glamorous.

  • Birth: Duvall

    Todd and Cristi Duvall of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their son, Ryan Patrick Duvall, born Dec. 14, 2011, at Central Baptist Hospital.
    He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 inches long.
    Maternal grandparents are Jimmie Lee Hawkins and Glenda Luckett of Lawrenceburg. Maternal great-grandparents are Carolyn Luckett of Lebanon, Betty Grubbs of Lawrenceburg; the late Jimmie Hawkins and the late Curtis Grubbs.

  • Bingo to support Wounded Warriors

    Want a chance to win some money and help soldiers injured while fighting for America?
    Bingo players can do both Saturday, March 17 at the American Legion Clubhouse in Lawrenceburg, according to a news release.
    The Legion’s Auxiliary will donate proceeds of Bingo played that day to the Wounded Warriors project, designed to assist soldiers wounded in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
    Doors will open at noon, and Bingo will begin at 2 p.m.

    Two education and workforce credential tests will be free to eligible Kentuckians on a first-come, first-served basis through June 30 or until funds are expended, according to a news release.
    Free GED tests and assessments to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) are sponsored by Kentucky Adult Education.

  • Way We Were: Anderson Bearcats on road to Rupp

    The Anderson High Bearcats won the 42nd District Basketball Tournament by downing the Nicholasville Rosenwald team 74-45 at the Mercer County gymnasium.

    The opening of the annual Anderson County Grade Basketball tournament Monday witnessed two closely played games. Marlowe outlasted Alton 25-21, although the game was tied at 21 with 1:46 left to play, and Rutherford surprised Sand Spring by turning on the heat in the last quarter and winning  25-22.
