  • High wind warning in effect until 10 p.m.

    UPDATED 6:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY — A high wind warning remains in effect for Anderson and surrounding counties until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.

    Winds of 20 to 40 mph with gusts from 65 to 70 mph are expected throughout the evening, the warning says.

    "Winds of this strength could result in widespread damage across the region and could cause already loosened branches and trees from the recent ice storm to fall," the warning says.

  • Ice storm gives way to brighter days

    Two weeks ago, the streets of Anderson County were paved in ice and snow after the worst winter storm in modern Kentucky history blew across the state.

    But you’d never know it just by stepping outside today.

    Temperatures have been in the 60s flirting with 70 since late last week, and all signs indicate that life is on its way back to normal — especially since power has been restored to all Anderson County residents.

  • City joins county in approving reverse 911

    The Lawrenceburg City Council voted Monday night to enter into an agreement with the county government to fund a system that can alert residents of pending emergencies.

    The reverse 911 system will be funded by tax money the county receives from residents who have landline phones.

    The county and city opted for a four-year contract with One Call Now, the same company currently used by Anderson County Schools to notify parents of school closings and other events.

  • Man dies after falling from roof

    A 77-year-old Lawrenceburg man died Friday afternoon after falling from his roof on Joy Street.

    When Anderson County EMS arrived at the scene, Norman D. Jones was in critical condition, said Maj. Amy Womack.

    Jones was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he later died.

    The home had one story, and Womack estimated Jones fell about 8 to 10 feet.

    "The report we got from the family was that he was cleaning ice and snow from the gutters," Womack said.

  • Bearcats continue winning ways

    UPDATED Saturday, Feb. 7, 11 p.m.

    Anderson County put on a defensive clinic Saturday night, defeating visiting McCreary Central 55-35. Anderson limited one of Kentucky's best-shooting teams to 30 points below its average as the Bearcats improved to 16-4 and extended their winning streak to seven games.

    “I thought our defense was tremendous,” said Anderson coach Glen Drury.

    Offensively, C.J. Penny led the Bearcats with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

    Aaron Watts paced McCreary with 17 points.

  • Lady Bearcats clinch district's top seed with win over Shelby

    The top seed in the girls' 30th District basketball tournament belongs to Anderson County this year. The Lady Bearcats clinched the top spot with a 62-53 win over visiting Shelby County Friday night.

    Anderson built a lead that grew to as many as 17 points early in the third quarter, then held off a furious Shelby rally to improve to 12-3 on the year. Shelby fell to 8-12.

    Tiffany Davenport led Anderson with 17 points, while Lindsay Fultz scored 16. Seventh-grader Eriel McKee came off the bench for 13 big points.

  • Governor approves statewide contract for debris removal

    Gov. Steve Beshear has approved the negotiation of a statewide contract for debris removal for Anderson and the other Kentucky counties affected by last week’s ice storm, announced Judge-Executive Steve Cornish and Mayor Edwinna Baker in a joint news release Friday.

    Cornish and Baker learned of the contract during a conference call hosted by the Kentucky Office of Emergency Management. Brigadier General John Heltzel made the announcement during the call.
