  • Woodford Theatre to hold auditions for ‘Odd Couple’

    The Woodford Theatre will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of “The Odd Couple” on Feb. 2 from 1-4 p.m. and Feb. 3 from 6-9 p.m. at the Falling Springs Recreational Center.
    The theater is looking for actors to fill the roles of Oscar Madison, slovenly, easygoing, 35-50; Felix Ungar, the neat, uptight, 35-50; Card playing buddies: Speed, Murray, Roy, Vinnie, 35-50; and the Pigeon Sisters: Gwendolyn, Cecily, 25-35.
    The show is scheduled to run April 5-21.

    Compassionate Friends announce upcoming meetings
    The Compassionate Friends will host meetings for bereavement parents who have lost children of any age.
    Meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the hospice building, 643 Teton Trail in Frankfort.

    Jan. 24, 1963
    Marvin E. Houchin, native of Lawrenceburg, was named general manager of the eight-state Kansas City, Mo., marketing division of the Mobil Oil Company.
    He is a World War II veteran on combat duty with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.

    Miss Judy Charlene Driskell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ancil Driskell, became the bride of Connie Huston Carlton, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Carlton, in ceremony performed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Christian Church Chapel.

    Anderson Community Education will offer the following courses.
    Puppy pre-school
    When: Saturday, Feb. 2 through Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.
    Where: Adult Learning Center, 219 E. Woodford St., with professional dog trainer Jean Gibowski
    Cost: $40
    Description: Learn how to turn your rambunctious puppy into a well-trained dog. The focus will be on socialization. Please bring proof of DAPP vaccinations for your puppy. This class is for puppies 8 to 16 weeks old.

  • Youth development program ‘Venture’ to host open house

    Venture Crew 120 will be hosting a free membership open house Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church for Venturing BSA, a youth development program with the Boy Scouts of America.
    According to a press release from the organization, Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 13 years old and have completed the eighth grade, or ages 14-20.

    Handy selected for wind ensemble
    Jessica Handy of Lawrenceburg was selected to perform in the University of Evansville’s wind ensemble at the Indiana Music Educators’ Association annual convention in Fort Wayne, Ind., the school announced.
    The 46-member ensemble — including Handy, who is majoring in music therapy — is among a select group of collegiate ensembles invited to perform at the IMEA convention, a professional development conference for Indiana music teachers.

    The Anderson County Library will offer the following free computer classes in February.

    The following Anderson County students were named to the 2012 fall semester dean’s list at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, the school reported.
    Students need a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in courses numbered 100 or above to qualify.
