  • Ten students perform with all-state choirs

    Ten students from Anderson County Middle School participated in the Kentucky Music Educators Association’s in-service conference all-state choirs this year in Louisville.

  • Brandt named to Belmont dean’s list

    Nicole Brandt of Lawrenceburg qualified for the fall 2010 dean’s list at Belmont University, according to a news release from the school.
    Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
    Brandt, a daughter of Duane and Cynthia Brandt, is majoring in religion and the arts with a double minor in French and creative writing.
    She recently started a homeless ministry on her campus in hopes of dissolving class lines in and around Nashville, according to the news release.

  • Currens earns master’s degree

    LauraLee Currens graduated from Georgetown College on Dec. 22, 2010, after completing the graduate course work to earn her Master’s of Arts degree in Teacher Leadership with a reading specialists endorsement for grades P-12, according to a news release.
    She will participate in commencement at Georgetown College on Aug. 14.
    She graduated with a 3.98 grade point average. She also received an Associate of Applied Science degree in 1997 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 2003 from the University of Kentucky.

  • UK announces dean’s list

    The University of Kentucky recently released the names of its students on the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester. Those students, with their program and area of study are listed below:

    Paul Harley and Jerelene Chapman Harley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 23, 2010.

  • Carly Elizabeth Tackett birth

    Robert Tackett and Misty Wells of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their daughter, Carly Elizabeth Tackett, on Dec. 21, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

    She weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces and was 18 inches long.
    She was welcomed home by a sister, Morgan Wells, 7.
    Her maternal grandparents are Sherry and Kevin Walker and Wayne Best, all of Lawrenceburg.
    Her paternal grandparents are Clevie Tackett and the late Debbie Daugherty of Georgetown.

  • Relay for Life calendar — 2/23

    Wednesday, Feb. 23
    5 to 6 p.m., Spaghetti supper at First Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome. Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children. The menu includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, garlic bread and dessert. All proceeds go to Anderson County Relay for Life.

    Saturday, Feb. 26
    8:30 to 11:30 p.m., Night of music and fun at Wild Turkey Trace. Kick’n It Up will provide the music. Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available.

  • Farmdale Baptist hires new associate pastor

    Farmdale Baptist Church voted to hire Joseph Gould as associate pastor with children’s ministry emphasis, during its business meeting Feb. 2, the church announced in a news release.

  • Tack, equipment sale planned for March 12

    Riding for the Son, the Central Kentucky chapter of Equestrian Ministries International, will host its Third Annual Used Tack and Equipment Sale on Saturday, March 12.
    This is the club’s annual fundraiser and all the proceeds from booth rentals will go to charity, according to a news release.
    This year’s sale will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 12 at 1340 KY Hwy 127 Bypass in Harrodsburg. The Kentucky Buckskin Association will sell lunch to vendors and shoppers.
