  • Carter signs with OVC school

    Anderson County High School soccer player Madison Carter has inked a national letter-of-intent with Eastern Illinois University of the Ohio Valley Conference.

    Located in Charleston, Illinois, Eastern Illinois finished 7-9-5 last fall.
    A four-year starter at Anderson, Carter is expected to play forward for the Panthers. She also considered Tusculum University in Alabama and Morehead State.

    “I told them she is a player,” Anderson coach Jason Earnest said.

  • Prater signs with Indy

    Anderson County High School soccer player Abby Prater signed a national letter-of-intent with the University of Indianapolis in a ceremony at the school last Wednesday. Prater is expected to play as a midfielder for the Greyhounds, who compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference of the NCAA's Division II.

  • Wrestlers shooting for state berths at region meet

    The second season for Anderson County wrestling is about to begin.
    The Mat Cats will be competing in the Region 2 meet, set for Central Hardin High School on Saturday, Feb. 12. The first bouts will get underway at 10 a.m.

    Anderson has been impressive of late, winning the Capital City Classic in Frankfort in mid-January and finishing second in the Danville Admiral Duals the following week. Saturday, Anderson went 2-1 in a duals meet at Woodford County.

    The Bearcats defeated Louisville Manual, but lost to Southern and the host team on its senior day.

  • Surprising Woodford to test Lady Bearcats

    Only three games remain in the regular season for the Anderson County girls' basketball team but they should provide three tests to see where the Lady Bearcats stand as they get ready for 30th District Tournament play, set to begin on Feb. 21.

    Friday, the Lady Bearcats host longtime rival Woodford County, a team that upset the Lady Bearcats last year in Versailles. It will be Anderson's final home game of the season.

  • Sports briefs for Feb. 9

    Little League registrations set.

    The Anderson County Little League will be taking registrations for the 2011 season at Saffell Street and Turner Elementary schools on Saturday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
    Players can also register at Splatter, Inc. and Blades Hair Salon anytime during regular business hours. Registrations can also be submitted online at www.aclittleleague.com.

  • Anderson basketball games canceled for Tuesday

    Both Anderson County basketball games scheduled for Tuesday night have been canceled.

    The Bearcats' home game with Henry County has been off. No makeup date, if any has been announced.

    The Lady Bearcats' game at Meade County has also been canceled. The game was originally set for Monday night, but called because of the snowstorm that hit the area. According to Anderson assistant coach Clay Birdwhistell, the teams are going to try to play on Thursday night in Brandenburg.

  • Anderson County Schools closed today

    Anderson County Schools will be closed today, Tuesday, Feb. 8, due to slick roads, the district announced via its Twitter account this morning.

  • Girls basketball at Meade postponed

    Anderson County High School athletic director Rick Sallee has announced that the girls' basketball game at Meade County, scheduled for Monday night, has been postponed. The game has been reset for Tuesday, Feb. 8 in Brandenburg.

  • Bearcat basketball game canceled

    The Anderson County boys' basketball game with McCreary Central, scheduled for Saturday night, Feb. 5, has been canceled. No make-up date, if any, has been announced.

    Friday, Anderson dropped a 57-44 decision at Woodford County.

    The Bearcats return to action Tuesday, Feb. 8, when they host regional foe Henry County at 7:30 p.m.
