  • Anniversary: Carlton

    Curt and Carole Carlton of Lawrenceburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 14, and will be honored at a reception July 21 from 4-6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Lawrenceburg.
    The couple has one son, Glendon Carlton and wife Gina Madden Carlton of Lexington.
    They have three grandchildren, Madelyn, 16, Olivia, 12, and Sophia Carlton, 12.
    Curt Carlton recently retired from the Anderson County Road Department in February 2012. Carole Carlton has been with Farmer’s Bank in Lawrenceburg for the past 27 years.

  • Historical society to meet

    The Anderson County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on July 26 in the Anderson Public Library.
    This month’s speaker is Thomas B. Ripy and he will discuss the life and times of John Marshall Harlan, Kentuckian and U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
    The meeting is free and open to the public.
     

  • Homemakers sponsor fair at Extension

    Anderson County Extension Homemakers sponsor the Home, Craft and Garden Fair on July 23 and 24.  Any Kentucky resident can enter items in the fair.
    Enter items on Monday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.  Exhibits will be open for viewing from 3–6 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday.
    There will be prize money for blue ribbons and best of show. There is no charge to enter or view exhibits.
    Enter art, antiques, crafts, flowers, preserved food, foods, produce, needlework, photography, quilts and sewing.  

  • Engagement: Hays-Wright

    Mr. and Mrs. Larry E. Hays of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebecca Jill Hays of Lawrenceburg, to Christopher Thomas Wright of Versailles, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Wright of Versailles.
    The bride is a graduate of Anderson County High School and Kentucky State University. She is currently employed as an investigator with the Northern Bluegrass Service Region special investigation team for the Department for Community Based Services.

  • Way We Were: Improvements evident at Rutherford

    This report from Andrew Bird, Superintendent of Schools, ran in the May 24, 1962 issue of The Anderson News about the Rutherford School.
    Rutherford is about 15 miles from Lawrenceburg and serves the southern part of the county. It is the center formed by consolidating in 1949-50 Young, Champion, Searcy, Goodlett, Kays, Royalty, part of Hickory Grove and Rutherford, all one-room schools ranging in enrollment from 11 to 23.
    The present enrollment is 139 and five teachers, four them with college degrees, and a teacher there.

    Warford graduates from law school
    Amanda Lee Warford of Lawrenceburg graduated summa cum laude, salutatorian and juris doctor from the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law on May 12.
    Warford is a published member and senior articles editor of the University of Louisville Law Review, Volume 50. Throughout her time in law school, she has been a participant in the street law partnership with Central High School, a research assistant for Professor Judith Fischer and a member of many student organizations.

  • Family Fun Fest to be held tonight

    The Anderson County school district will host its 11th Family Fun Fest on July 26 from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson County Middle school.
    According to a press release from the school, the district plans to donate 800 backpacks again this year, filled with school supplies.
