  • Anna Pence Rhody

    Monty and Erin Rhody of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of their daughter on Feb. 25, 2011 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
    Anna Pence Rhody was 8 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 22 inches at birth.
    She was welcomed home by her brothers Jack, 5, and Will, 3.
    Paternal grandparents are Barbara and Dana Dahlen of Lawrenceburg. Paternal grandparents are Jack and the late Diana Rhody of Frankfort.

  • Birth: Evan Anthony Johnson

    Evan Anthony Johnson
    Krista and Forrest Johnson of Lawrenceburg announce the birth of a son on Jan. 14, 2011 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
    Evan Anthony Johnson weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 inches long.
    He was welcomed home by his brother, Ethan.
    Maternal grandparents are Kevin and Patsy Satterly of Lawrenceburg.
    Paternal grandparents are Phil and Connie Johnson of Woodford County.

  • Engagement: Heather Leigh Fint and Robert Christopher Groothedde

    Billy and Amy Fint of Lawrenceburg announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Heather Leigh Fint, to Robert Christopher Groothedde, son of Robert and Patty Groothedde, of Spartanburg, S.C.
    Ms. Fint is a 2003 graduate of Anderson County High School and a 2009 graduate of Bluegrass Community Technical College. She is the granddaughter of Gordon and Pinkie Clark and Bill and Bessie Fint, all of Lawrenceburg, and the late C.W. “Bud” Robinson formerly of Mercer County. She is the great-granddaughter of Mary Fint of Lawrenceburg.

  • Anniversary: Darrell and Sue Lilly

    Darrell and Sue Lilly of Lawrenceburg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception on Saturday, April 9 from 2 to 5 pm at Alton Baptist Church in the “Gathering Place,” at 1321 Bypass North.  
    They were married April 27, 1961 by the Rev. Orville Neely at Tunnel Hill Baptist Church in Tunnel Hill, W.Va.

    Feb. 23, 1961
    In an ad, Walter Patrick asked for votes as state senator for Anderson, Shelby, Scott and Franklin counties in the Democratic Primary, May 23, 1961.
    The ad said Patrick had been a practicing attorney in Lawrenceburg since 1951. Word on the street is that he retired at the end of 2010.

    Four Anderson County students were chosen to receive the D.A.R. Good Citizenship and History awards.

  • Ward third graders perform ‘Rats’

    Third graders at Emma B. Ward recently presented “Rats,” directed by their music teacher Mr. Smith.
    The musical was very entertaining and funny, parents said.
    “Rats” is the story of the Pied Piper, who was played by Layne Meade. The town of Hamelin was being taken over by rats and the townspeople called upon the mayor to fix the problem.

  • Bluegrass group releases new CD

    Mercer County residents Ric Maxfield, Karen Maxfield and Adam Hopkins, and Anderson County resident Chuck Bowman of the Royal Blue Bluegrass Band has announced the release of their latest CD, a self-titled project named Royal Blue.
    The group began recording the CD last December, which was produced and directed by bluegrass music great Ron Stewart, according to a news release.
    It’s the group’s fourth CD and contains 11 familiar bluegrass songs and one original, “Lucto Breakdown,” featuring Bowman on banjo.
