  • Way We Were: J.P. McMichael retired from police force

    Jan. 25, 1962
    Wesley N. Sims, 26, was promoted to captain in Korea, where he was a member of the 1st Calvary Division. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin W. Sims.

    All Anderson County schools were closed Friday because of the condition of roads following a heavy snowstorm beginning that morning. Superintendent Andrew Bird said this is the only day this year that it was necessary to close the schools.

  • Ingram graduates as airman first class

    Christopher D. Ingram graduated as Airman First Class on Dec. 30 from Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.
    He will attend technical training for seven months in a specialized field.
    Ingram is a 2006 Anderson County High School graduate. He is married to the former Hannah Renee Allen and is a son of Douglas and Diana Ingram, all of Lawrenceburg.

  • Slashed payroll proposed to balance health department budget

    The Anderson County Health Department’s financial woes will be solved largely on the backs of its employees if proposed spending cuts are approved.
    The health board’s finance committee has approved slashing an estimated $163,000 in payroll and an additional $30,000 in other spending in an effort to rectify an estimated $185,000 budget deficit.
    The proposal will be presented to the full health board when it meets Feb. 15. It must first be approved by the state’s acting commissioner of public health.
