  • Avoid home selling turnoffs

If you’re buying a house, you probably know what turns you off in homes that you tour: messy, cluttered houses, strong odors, color schemes that are unique and so on. Most people can’t wait to get out of a house like that. When you are selling your house, be sure to prepare. Avoid these major turnoffs and you go a long way toward making your home a place visitors won’t be in such a hurry to leave.

Ticks can make outdoor activities very uncomfortable in Kentucky, as well as posing a potential public health threat. Tick season extends from mid-March through August.

  • Outdoor cats susceptible to strokes, too

    By Jane Sinnett, Guest Columnist

You don’t think of it happening to that sweet, soft, bundle of fur that literally vibrates with contentment while lying in your lap as you stroke the silky fur.

But happen it does. Adult cats of both genders and any breed can suffer from strokes. It has been found most feline strokes are diagnosed during the summer months in outdoor cats living in the northeastern United States or in southeastern Canada.

  • Bearcat baseball region’s most consistent

    Memorial Day meanderings …

What a night last Wednesday was when the Anderson County baseball and softball teams both took 30th District championships.

As strong as both programs have been over the last 15 years, that was only the third season that saw both diamond teams captured district championships. The last time it happened was in 2012. The only other time was in 2004, before any of the current Bearcats and Lady Bearcats were old enough to know the difference between a ball and a strike.

  • Duncan just misses state title, finishes third

LEXINGTON – With just over 100 meters to go, it looked like Connor Duncan was in good shape.

He might have even been in the lead in the 300-meter hurdles at the Class 3A KHSAA State Track Meet, held at the University of Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.

But a hurdler’s worst nightmare slowed Duncan down just enough that he finished third at 39.69, still the fastest time ever for an Anderson County hurdler. It just wasn’t enough at the state.

  • GOE STOPS ANDERSON TITLE DREAMS

SHELBYVILLE – Anderson County can attest to the statement that Jason Goe is a stopper.

The senior Grant County right-hander defeated the Bearcats for the second time this season, giving up just three hits as the Braves defeated Anderson, 5-3, in the first round of the Eighth Region Baseball Tournament at Shelby County Athletic Complex Monday.

Grant moved on to play South Oldham, which defeated Henry County Monday, in the regional semifinals. Collins and Simon Kenton were to play in the other semifinal Tuesday night after press time.

  • Rain delay can’t stop Lady Bearcat bats

INDEPENDENCE -- Early morning rains delayed things a bit, but Anderson County bats delivered the inevitable Monday.

The Lady Bearcats erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning on their way to a 12-0 shellacking of Owen County in the opening round of the Eighth Region Softball Tournament at Simon Kenton High School.

The game started about 45 after the scheduled noon start after rain in northern Kentucky delayed the first game of the tournament between Grant County and Oldham County.
